Yeah they really got me with that coupon haha. Made the bar about $160 more than the REP Deep Knurl shipped, for the fancy sleeves and "Made in USA" I thought that seemed fair. I've grown accustomed to the aggressive TPB knurl so we'll see how it goes, the review from Basement Brandon helped a bit hearing it still retained the classic "grippy" feel that comes with AB barbells.

    Hey fellas,
It's been a while for me, but I'm back. I missed this group, and it's been years. I had a series of unfortunate events over the last 5 years, and stopped lifting due to health reasons. I've been reading up today about the forum, and it seems to have had a bad run, but hopefully it's all good now.

My youngest daughter, second year at NCSU just joined the weightlifting team at school, so I'm going to be setting some stuff up in the gym for her Olympic style lifting. As for me, I'm rehabbing, and just getting back into it slowly. It sucks getting old, lol, but feels good to be back.

It's good to see that alot of people are still here, and I hope to be spending more time here. Happy Easter, and godspeed.

I agree about other gym, and equipment groups, on the internet. Everyone seems combative. We have always gotten along, like workout partners, and we seem to cull those that really don't belong by ignoring them. I do belong to a couple of FB vintage sights that are OK, but in general FB is a cesspool. Good to be back, and things are moving slow, but at least they are finally moving. Thanks !

Tried repping, but told I'm on spread with you, after 5 years, lol.

Combative is the perfect description, they are there to disagree which makes sharing opinions nearly impossible. Not to mention being excited about anything, post a picture of a new piece of equipment and half the comments are trashing you over one thing or another. Oh well, at least the forum here is still alive, spam has gotten MUCH better!

The combativeness on social media is by design. It's designed to increase engagement through encouraging negative emotions. It does this by identifying and exploiting vulnerabilities of human behavior. Zuckerberg is on record saying he's most interested in the psychological aspects of ********. We thought the machines were gonna kill us all with robots.

I'm not gonna ask youse guys to talk me outta this, because I know how that'd go

    But how crazy is this?

After having tweaked my back lifting (I suppose--still not certain how I did it), it occurred to me that, because it was my back, that also meant no cardio, because my one-and-only cardio machine is a C2 rower.

Then, it turned out, I'll need some outpatient surgery--sooner rather than later, that's going to restrict me to a twenty pound lifting restriction for up to six weeks. I doubt doing HIIT on a rower would be wise, then, either.

So I got to thinking maybe replace the rower with an air bike? I'm thinking a Rogue Echo.

Only problem is: I'd sure like to try one before plunking down the money and going to the trouble of selling the C2.

Well, Rogue is only 3-1/2 hours away from me.

So how crazy would it be to make the trip? Go down to Rogue and actually check one out before buying?

I could offset part of the fuel cost by buying it on-the-spot and saving the shipping, I suppose...

I'm sure I can sell the C2 for what I paid for it, used. It's still in "like new" condition, with low kilometerage. My net out-of-pocket cost would probably be less than $300 -- fuel costs and all.

I don't think it's too ridiculous. Especially with Rogue's return policy being as bad/costly as it is. Figure out, something else to do while near there, and make a good day out of it. The worse thing is ordering it, paying the shipping, and finding out it doesn't work for you, the paying exhorbitant costs for returning it.

Good luck with the back !

I too have back issues (herniated L5-S1 and sciatica from it) so I minimize my rower usage (although I absolutely love it, fav cardio by far).

I would get the Airdyne Pro X over the Rogue. It's much nicer feeling and you can do more fore/ aft seat adjustment if needed. I also have a Panatta Eco Climber (gravity fed stair climber) that I absolutely love but you probably can't get one quickly given shipping time from Italy.

I also bought a versaclimber when my back was more acute but I didn't have great luck with it, I found it required sort of sticking your butt out enough that it wasn't great and the actual climbing position was less vertical than you'd imagine.

Columbus is a pretty nice, couple things come to mind if you wanted to make the trip worthwhile. What we did was hit the Columbus Zoo early and spent the day there, 15 minute drive to Rogue from there, then went over to Hofbrahaus for dinner before heading home. Made for a really nice weekend day with the family, I was able to snag that last pair of Arnold plates

I asked my wife if she was interested in a road trip. Emphatic "NO." So I'll be making the trip alone.

No worries. I'm sure it'll be a long day, but, I drove 5½ hours, round-trip, to pick up my (used) Body-Solid Back Hyper bench without a problem.

Of course: That's assuming I decide I like it, and like it better than my C2. If I decide not to buy it, then I'll have spent 7½ hours driving 436 miles, consumed about 22 gallons of gasoline, and paid about $100 for it--just to find that out.

"How lucky do you feel, punk?"

Watching their videos, it looks like an air bike can be a really good cardio workout.

When I broached the topic to my wife the other day, I said "This is going to sound a bit nuts, but, hear me out before rejecting it out-of-hand." "Nuttier than usual?" she asked?

Find a local gym that has the bike. Pretty common piece. Pay for the day, and try it. They are extremely hard.

FWIW, If you are already having back surgery a few months in, it might be time to re-think your entire weight training routine and goals.

I suppose, in retrospect, I can see where you might have reached the conclusion you did, but, I'm not having back surgery. Other than the sciatica that's occasionally bothered me for some forty years (which regular exercise keeps at bay), my back is fine. I'm having umbilical hernia surgery.

Anyway... the driving down to Rogue or finding a gym that has Echos has been rendered moot. It turns out FB Marketplace is lousy with Rogue Echo bikes for sale for anywhere from $200 to $300 off list for a new one. So problem solved

But, when I discussed it with the Family CFO last night, she noted our current CC balances and the fact I'd been spending a lot of money, lately, so I may have to forgo this for a bit

ETA: Somebody snagged the $600 one w/in about twenty-four hours of it being listed, saving me the indecision and possibly wrangling with the Family CFO over the purchase

You need to go off the books with a black budget, like the intelligence agencies do. OPSEC.
You need a good rack, a bench, and a 300-lb Olympic weight set. Now, what was your question?

I had umbilical hernia surgery back in 2006. I think I may have been down for about a month. I don't recall it slowing me down all that much after it got repaired. Good luck and speedy recovery.
I've had issues with sciatica about 10 years ago. I saw a chiropractor briefly and he helped the issue. He put me on a machine face down that strapped my torso down and ankles down and the machine bent at the waist/hips. It really stretched out where the sciatica was getting aggravated. I've always toyed around with getting a reverse hyper as it looks like it would basically do the same thing. I don't have the room for a dedicated one, but the foldable one looks like it could work.

The staff told me I'd be on a 20 lb. lifting restriction for two weeks. The surgeon said six.

A chiropractic was no help for mine at all. What's kept it at bay is, as the DO who originally diagnosed me told me, keeping my abs strong and my hams stretched.

Regular use of reverse hyper, and strengthening my QL muscle, all but eliminated lower back pain for me.

I've made trolleys like this before (for my 2x3 uprights) but I admit I didn't think of making a smith out of them. However, this one is actually missing a crucial feature of the smith which is being able to stop the barbell at any point along it's path. Starting from the bottom like in the video is not great. I'd also make it that you can remove the barbell easily so it's not on there permanently. Lol, now I have to go make my own. Probably my next project once I get some free time seeing as I already have the trolleys.
