I'm feeling guilty as I haven't been contributing much. Still lurking everyday but need to keep up with the crew a little better.

I feel like I've fallen off the face of the earth.
The house thing is killing me as of late. I've been doing nothing but framing for a week, along with herding subs to finish what they said they'd do. It's been an interesting process that's taking away time from most other things, including training.Crews: Ivanko Barbell Crew #52, York Barbell Club #95, Equipment Crew #59

I'm doing my best to contribute by splurging on bars I don't need so y'all can have nice pics.
It's crunch time on our house.. should be moving back in about two weeks now. Lifting has kept me sain. I can't wait to have a beer on my back patio in peace. I mean, I love my in-laws and all, but 9 months at their place has been rough.. though we did manage to get pregnant. LOL. So we splurged on a Bosch induction cooktop and I can't wait to cook on that thing. It supposedly is ultra responsive like gas, but with the smooth easy to clean-ness of a smooth electric top. It also is very child-safe in that it is only hot when a pot is on it (uses a magnetic field.. yes we had to get new pots.. your pots only will work if a magnets sticks to the bottom). Pretty cool stuff. Can't wait to be home.Last edited by thejosef; 05-20-2017 at 09:47 PM.

I tend to wait until I have something of use to say. Happens every so often. And even that's debatable.
Had an induction stove top for awhile. It was amazing to cook on. Worked incredibly well. I'm sure you'll enjoy yours no doubt.▪[[────]]▪ York Barbell Club #65 ▪[[────]]▪

^^^Same. Between moving into the new house and getting things settled I mainly lurk as any equipment purchases are on hold until I get the gym brought to the house. Waiting on these from Costco so I can claim as much space in the garage as possible for the gym.

My father built some of these back in the 90s (wire, plywood, but same design). Probably held a half a ton of weight.
I was thinking of buying some and then you magically post this, lol. I am considering blocking the joists in the garage just for these, in case I need them. If I never do, at least the house is more stout for the effort.
I really like the bicycle hangers. I have a BMX (I'll always be a kid at heart & never get rid of it) and I'll probably get a mountain bike or something similar in the future. This might be an ideal setup.
Speaking of projects...
I burned out my dewalt impact cordless screwdriver. I cannot say that I recommend it at all. I haven't had it very long. After some longer drilling sessions, it started to smoke. A buddy of mine who is a commercial plumber had the same exact issues. I'm not pleased. This seems to be a common issues with Dewalt drills.
I needed something & bought this badd@$$ toy: a cordless joist hole saw. It's not cheap, but it's paid for itself over hiring someone to drill holes. I keep finding more places to run 3.5" OD pipe for wiring, so it's constantly saving me money & time. The long break bar/handle will save your butt. It has more than enough torque to turn the unit and break your arm.
Not my pic, but it shows what's possible.
I also have to hang all the shelving (closets, laundry room, all storage), so I ended up picking this green laser up on sale for Black Friday. I tested it yesterday for lining up the blocking to mount shelves. Let me tell you, the green lasers are worth the money. They are highly visible & it casts the line throughout the entire house. If I had an open concept house (I don't, thank God, lol), I could set this up in the middle of each floor & do everything in one go. I'm actually concerned I'll bother drivers, but i'm 80' off the road from the front porch, so I'm hoping it won't reach.
I guess one of the upsides of not trusting subs to do the work & not wanting to pay for shoddy labor is that I get to spend the money on tools I keep.Last edited by Synthetickiller; 05-22-2017 at 05:29 PM.

Before you trash it, check that you didn't just wear down the brushes. Burning out the motors on these things are not that common. Carbon brushes are meant to wear down over time and need to be replaced. Many folks think the drill is shot when indeed the brushes exceeded their life (which is shortened with heavy use).
I like DeWalt for 120V tools. But when it comes to cordless I am a Makita guy (the 18V lineup). My second choice in cordless would be the Milwaukee 18V lineup.
That said, my most recent purchase for my basement project was the Makita 120V (corded) drywall screw gun over the DeWalt and other brands. So maybe I am turning into a Makita guy for corded too.▪█──────█▪ Equipment Crew #64 ▪█──────█▪

I really like my brushless 20v Dewalt XR drill and driver set, though I really just do small house projects with it. Their compact size & ergonomics are really nice. But Makita is what we use at work on a daily basis. Makita makes some great stuff.
Here's the set I recently picked up on a nice sale a few months back. It was a big upgrade from the plasticy 18V Ni-Cad Dewalt I had previously.

Are the brushless drills better or just more convenient due to lack of maintenance? If you get a model that are easy enough to change out, which is a better option?
I've tried to research this in the past with mixed answers. To me it seems that if a tool has a sacrificial part that will wear out before the tool fries, isn't that a better option? Or am I misunderstanding how a brushless drill works?▪█──────█▪ Equipment Crew #64 ▪█──────█▪

might as well ask this here - was using my cordless impact to clean the shower (scrubber heads on Amazon - they're great) but like an idiot I splashed it with water and it shut down. Battery is fine, the light works on the gun, but won't spin or even attempt to spin. I am wondering if it "reset" like a kill switch to avoid further damage, but not sure where to look first on it.

I will probably look into the rubbermaid storage system from Lowe's for hanging things on the wall and perhaps a storage cabinet as well. I currently have the plastic 5 tiered shelves that are okay.

I've used that rubber maid fasttrack system for garage organization for a while now and it's been excellent. Sometimes it's hard to find single hooks you need and you have to get a random 5-pack or something, but you'll find a use for most of the attachments anyway. It also works really nice for a row of change weights.

It comes with a 3 year warranty (I've had it about 15 months, with very limited use). I wonder if dewalt will play ball & replace it. I have a corded brushless that's help up thus far.
The brushless, in my experience, are more power efficient, quieter (not that it's that much quieter) and are supposed to not fail as often, lol.
I think dewalt has an issue w/ the model I bought as a lot of subs I'm running into are burning them out. The previous version didn't fail nearly as often.
The hole saw is a beast. Drop by some time & we'll get some lumber at lowes, just for fun, lol. I'm really not sure what I'll use it for after I finish the house. I guess if I need to drill into the concrete, I'll have the right tool for the job!
My drill did the same thing, except no water, just smoke. It smoked, barely worked, then after a time, would not turn on. Light on it lights up, batteries work (they work on all my other stuff), but it doesn't work at all. Other than allowing it to dry, it's probably dead.Crews: Ivanko Barbell Crew #52, York Barbell Club #95, Equipment Crew #59

Brushless produces more power output while at the same time consuming less. I was going back and forth between the Milwaukee bushless M12 vs M18. I settled on the M12. It puts out at least as much power as me Dewalt lithium brushed 18v.
In all my years of construction work I've never had a tool fail because of worn out brushes. I'm not saying they don't, just never while I was using them. I know on both my dremel and my angle grinder I've used the **** out of them at home and both overheated and died but the brushes were still like new. I was able to fix both though.[]---[] Equipment Crew Member No. 21

With respect to selecting new crew members, we're slowly getting closer.
I have about a dozen nominees and have now sent PMs to reasonably active crew members for their input / votes.
If you're on the crew, but didn't get an PM from me, that means that either you already sent me your nominations (which I'm counting as a vote) or that I missed you somehow. If I did miss you, I apologize. If you're on the crew and haven't yet sent me a PM on the matter, but want to participate in picking new crew members, then please send me a PM. You can either send me your nominations (no more than three) or let me know that I should send you a list of current nominees to choose from.▪█─────█▪ Equipment Crew #35

Why not just simplify it so that if two active crew members nominate someone they are in?
Just make sure they know not to leave dirty towells in the sauna. I really hate that.
I would nominate everyone on KBKB's current list.▪█─────█▪ Equipment Crew #53 ▪█─────█▪
