for those of you who may be losing some hair on top, perhaps you can take comfort knowing that many well-known celebs and famous people are also facing the same epidemic...nice to know they're human after all, but apparently they go to great lengths to conceal the male pattern baldness...ive got a bit of recession at the temples myself so i can relate to these guys...too bad i dont have the cash to get wacky hair transplants and whatever the hell else they do...
note: not sayin anything bad about being bald, just think it's funny how many celebs there are that cover it up

" Tough cowboy John Wayne, singer-actor Frank Sinatra, action-hero Steve McQueen, Jimmy Stewart, Humphrey Bogart, Fred Astaire, all of these heroes of a glorious past are said to have worn wigs. We all can see they often had funny hairdo's that covered their hairlines, but is that strong evidence? William Shatner, famous for his part of Captain James T. Kirk in Star Trek, is often referred to as a wig wearer. The 73 year old Shatner is denying. Robert de Niro, Nicolas Cage, John Travolta, Mel Gibson, Tom Hanks, Robin Williams, Kevin Costner, Michael Douglas, Harrison Ford, Hugh Jackman, Brendan Fraser, Mike Meyers, Jason Patric, John Cusack, Ethan Hawke, Jon Bon Jovi, Christopher Lee, Christian Slater, Christopher Reeve, Ricardo Montalban, David Spade, Michael Keaton, Sylvester Stallone, Willem Defoe, Charlton Heston, Rob Lowe, Jude Law, Billy Bob Thornton, Kevin Spacey, Robert Redford, Quentin Tarantino, Bronson Pinchot, Steve Martin, Charles Grodin, Chevy Chase, Chuck Norris, Harry Connick Jr, Lee Majors, Charles Bronson, Tony Curtis, Lou Ferrigno, Tom Arnold, James Caan en Billy Crystal, all of these moviestars are rumoured to have implants or hairpieces. Tom Arnold for sure is wearing because he tells all the world about it. Concerning the other names we must repeat that we did not find any solid evidence to support these rumours!"Snake's New Diabetic Log: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=130722163

Balding brahs: Isn't it depressing to know that this condition is quite easy to cure?
No conspiracy theory, but the reality is that the top medical researchers just don't take balding as a serious condition. This is what an old acquaintance of mine was telling me who actually apart of the medical research community. If balding were actually a serious disease that actually caused physical harm, all it would take is to set up a research committee composed of the world's brightest researchers (including some Nobel Laureates) and a cure could easily be developed within less than a year. Ironically, he also thinks like this and laughs at the notion of spending his life researching a baldness cure even though he himself is pretty bald at this point.
The reality of the matter is, most competent researchers just believe the solution to balding is to shave your head and it's nothing more than a silly cosmetic issue. That's why there isn't a cure now despite all the progress we've made in medical research over the past few decades. As for myself, I've noticed a little recession at my temples now at 30 even though I still have a full head of hair and absolutely no family history of balding. I feel really bad for the brahs in their early 20s who are losing their hair fast, knowing that a cure could easily be developed right now if medical scientists actually cared about the problem.

OP's friend is actually right on the money. I am at UC and have profs that do work in tissue engineering, cell regeneration, and stem cells and even they will admit it's a rather trivial problem to solve if it was actually a real condition, but they don't see it as such.
More likely than not is you and your colleagues working on this are the true incompetent morons. It will be tissue engineers and biotechs who end up curing androgenic alopecia, not third-rate researchers like yourselves who have been researching this for the past 30 years and have nothing to show for it despite the millions thrown at you. Minoxidil is still the best thing we have, and it was discovered as a side-effect for another drug more than 30 years ago.

Lol at calling me the moron. You don't even know the name of the condition, it's "androgenic" not "androgenetic". You just further helped elucidate my friend's point, who's actually well known in his field of research (genetic diseases) and is well cited, not to mention graduating from a top 10 school.

First of all, scientists are not motivated by greed. We're motivated by understanding the deepest nature of a problem and by the excitement of discovery, and we leave engineers to make use of that discovery.
Secondly, I brought this up to him as a joke, but even those scientists motivated by money don't see it as promising return on investment. Baldness only affects 1 in 3 men by the age of 30, and statistics show that only 5% seek treatment in the form of either a hair transplant or topical medications to maintain what they already have. The evidence shows that the vast majority of men don't seem to care about hair loss and wouldn't even buy a miracle cure if it were to restore their hair completely without any side effects and it was really cheap (a pipe dream).

ahaha
ahahahahaha
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Oh, tissue engineering? That's so cute! How cutting edge is that man! How about you go take a look at how well "cell engineering" has done for androgenetic alopecia. You may want to look up two little companies named "Replicel" and "Alderans"- take a look at how their stock has done in the last few years, take a look at their trial results, and you'll see exactly how well your "tissue engineers" have done at treating androgenetic alopecia.
Here's the thing dip****: I'm what you might call a member of the field of gene therapy, which is going to be what cures pattern baldness. I don't expect you to believe this, because you're clearly an idiot who has absolutely no knowledge of this field at all, but it's good I put it out there, so that one day when you see on the news "genetic therapy cures pattern baldness" on the morning news, you won't choke on your cheerios and sputter out your milk in surprise.
Just lmao at some people and how little scientific knowledge they have.
