What's everyone's choice when lifting. I typically have a mix of 70s punk, industrial/metal and 80s rap.

I got a mix of stuff...from iron maiden, offspring, , rhcp, to miley cyrus singing jolene. I listen to music that sounds good to me. I dont need some hard rhythm to get me pumped up. If you need an outside stimulus to get you motivated to lift then you're a goober.
For the longest time I would also not listen to music. If you're in a gym the best part of throwing headphones in is not having to listen to mr olympian wannabe grunting and wheezing like a gaf. Although even with headphones those people can still be heard at times.

this. i used to put on music in the basement, but without outside noise to drown out, i find the music is distracting. though my house is really quite when i lift. maybe that'll change when the in-laws move in for a few months.
weird, you don't mention that you super set your heavy lunges with sets of shredding the guitar...Domicron's Basement Gym and Fun House

I guess it varies from person to person. I've always been a person where music helps dictate mood. If I'm pissed off, relaxing music will help me relax, if I play some music I associate with lounging on the beach and having a drink then that music will make me want a drink, etc. Same for music that has a bit more energy gets me going.

This^^^, along with a hefty dose of metal and a little bit of rap.
I have my tablet patched into a decent receiver (Integra DTR-4.6) along with four wall-mounted bookshelf speakers and a Polk 12" powered sub. Sounds pretty good (IMO) and definitely loud enough to drown out any/all outside noise."What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us." - Ralph Waldo Emerson

Depends on my mood. Assortment of Nine Inch Nails, Mudvayne, Tool, Rage, Rob Bailey, and Mateusz M motivational videos. Ok and I'm not going to lie I have a thing for the teenage girl band Paramore.

I've always been partial to rap for lifting. I rarely listen to it other than lifting, but something about the beat and cadence really gets me in the groove for a workout. Been using Power Workout on Slacker for a bit now.
Depending on my mood, that can dramatically change though. I've honestly listened to the best of the 50's on more than one occasion. LOL
I know metal is a popular option, but I've never been able to get into the majority of it though. Closest for me is along the lines of Rob/White Zombie.▪[M]====[6]▪ Mech6 Crew #1 ▪[M]====[6]▪

Either Metallica/Pantera(anything else Phil like Down, Superjoint Ritual etc)/Slayer/Suicidal Tendencies/RATM or classic/underground hip hop.

These are the main playlists I listen to. Made em myself because I cant stand when a song comes on that I think sucks.
80s and 90s thrash - https://play.spotify.com/user/121216...7ylwzDDrM6denu
Some older rap - https://play.spotify.com/user/121216...x2jePKIhZA11F3
Death metal - https://play.spotify.com/user/121216...B9nu510AdkzDkT
80s and 90s metal - https://play.spotify.com/user/121216...wleT2JWQDGWqOf
Every once in a while Ill play a station. Exodus, Testament, Overkill, Jay Z, DJ Quik, Lil Wayne are all pretty good stations.
This track right here though, makes me want to punch everyone in the room and knock down the walls with my head. But I just do my set instead!

Same. Something with a good fast tempo. Kind of a constant noise level and not too distracting vocals.
I need to listen to some kind of music because I am prone to day dreaming and losing focus when sitting in silence. If I try to lift without music I'll end up "resting" between a set for 30 minutes because I've lost track of time. The music helps me maintain that time awareness.______________________________________________________________

I used to train to "hard" stuff: Metallica, Disturbed, Godsmack, some Korn, some Limp Biscuit, Prodigy, Slipknot, Sevendust and a some 90s industial/grunge when I'm in the mood.
After watching a lot of videos about how the Russians train, I've forced myself to listen to a lot of weak music before my work sets. There's no need to give it 105% & mentally psych myself out every set. So long as bar speed is good & I'm not struggling, I can focus more on my mental readiness & set up than having to use the music like a pre-workout solution. Try listening to eons by 311 more calming & soothing; you'll realize how much of a crutch music can be. It's good not to be one dimensional when training.
Why do I even bother with music? It's boring being alone in the gym & music is awesome.Crews: Ivanko Barbell Crew #52, York Barbell Club #95, Equipment Crew #59
