Oh god...people saying "it looks like a nuclear bomb" and the media saying a "huge mushroom cloud" are all perpetrating panic with the insinuation that this was a bomb.

Opie, technically it did "take out part of the city", but that line implies something much more massive than the video I watched. Clearly whatever happened was a tragedy because people obviously perished, but I see media outlets trying to grab headlines with the implication that it was a bomb.

Money is on some sort of manufacturing plant explosion. Nothing more.

Cue the media hysteria.

What's cool is the fact that in the first video you can hear a slight rumble (6 seconds in) before the sound of the explosion actually reached them. This is pretty rare, and it needs to be a powerful explosion for that to happen.


The sound/impulse travels through the ground much faster than it does through air, so the building acted like an amplifier for that impulse. You could hear the explosion before the sound even reached them. Cool.

Yeah lots of people living with 1/2 miles of that blast are going to have all their windows blown out = hundreds if not thousands of injuries/deaths. Seems pretty major to me

Chem. plant fire/explosion as mentioned previously sounds a bit more accurate. An explosion is faster/more violent and sometimes there might not even be a 'fire' like that.
