I think our self awareness has a lot to do with having language. We can put thoughts into words where other animals can't.

As far as our consciousness, I think it's like a flash drive getting wiped. It's just gone and that's it.

I've been having very vivid dreams lately. Like dreams where I talk to these strange beings who have been revealing secrets. They have told me things like a ghost is following you because of something I did in the past. Randomly that same night, my wife had a dream that a ghost was on my side of the bed staring at me (she had no idea these vivid dreams were happening to me). Anyway in 1 of these vivid dreams, I asked the beings what death was like and they told me to see for myself. They asked me to close my eyes and they would hack my head with a machete, and assured me that I would awake from my dream a little later. When the beings "killed me" all I saw was black and felt coldness and then nothing at all. as if you were unconscious and didn't know. Then all of a sudden it was like my mind was a computer. I could as big or as small as I wanted. It turned out that the after life brain contained 6 lobes, vice 4. Not exactly sure what the 2 extra lobes did BUT like I said my mind was like a computer. I knew every answer to anything, could see things from any view etc...Also, I was able to pick what time frame I was visiting. For example, I had access to go to a 90 era or an 1800's era if I so chose. Every point of time was literally 'webbed' together and layered on top of each other. It was a very cool experience. Not saying any of this is for sure BUT you cannot make this stuff up lol. Im 100% fkn SRS.

Actually thought about this a lot today. I'm currently leaning towards life actually being a giant test to see if conscious beings can exist in the universe or if they will just destroy everything. I'm currently leaning towards humans not being the answer and God being at like 0/715353847273526363829. Hope he gets it someday.


Edit: and as for what happens to my consciousness, since its only how my body interprets learns interacts and responds to its enviroment.... I really don't want to think about what happens to it when I die, maybe il think deeper on it later, like before I die.


Edit: sorry for the sidetrack but I answered the real question first. Why does anyone even care what happens to us when we die if you don't even know why we're here. Figure out why we're here and you should be able to solve what happens when we die.

Not existing and eternal life are both scary, or less than desireable, prospects to me; I'm not sure which one is worse. Existing and being self-aware is pretty amazing but also real chitty at the same time. I think other animals know they are dying but they don't have all the feels that we do, which can be good and bad.

I'd rather live to be a couple hundred years old if I could, assuming that I was healthy for the vast majority of that time. There's a lot of cool chit on Earth to see and experience, and the way we've created society it causes a lot of people to live ordinary, boring lives.

I've already spent my late teens and early 20's thinking about death and the purpose of life a lot, I prefer to just say "phuck it" and live my life the best I can. With humility you realize you don't really know much and not too much is certain. I would say I'm a soft atheist but my family follows the Catholic church and I was raised in it, I have no problem with religion itself even if I think most of the beliefs are pretty silly.
