Inquired about a Scion tC at a Lexus dealership.

Scion tC 2014 with 30,000 miles & manual transmission. Dealership says it is $17,950

I sent them a response back inquiring if we were talking about the right car... i honestly was scratching my head. I pointed out that it is manual, it is not a popular car (2nd worst selling tC year since 2003), that it isn't even direct injection, AND you can get a 2015 brand new for $19,000-$20,000.

Dealer response was that they were standing firm. I thanked them for the prompt reply but said no thank you.

There's a million dealerships out there. Guarantee they'll be sending you an email in a few weeks inquiring whether or not you'd like to talk about the price on that car again. I'm hoping you find something at a better price by then.

used car pricing from dealerships are pretty damn close to brand new, even a 100k mile car isn't discounted enough...

I had already seen the Carfax. But this is what the dealership said to me about it (they offered it up)...

The vehicle is priced to sell. I did look in our area and there is two other ones same year automatic priced higher. On the CarFax even it says we are only $500 above suggested retail pricing which means we are at a fair price. We go through a long process restoring our vehicles to the best we can there are no blemishes that I see on the vehicle. There are small rock chips on the front that have already been touched up other than that it is a pretty clean car.

I sent inquiries to a bunch of others with $13,000 as my starting price. Hoping for a $14,000 OTD at most. Trade in on the car is about $12,000.

Nada clean retail is $16,200. Eff that, I'd never even pay clean retail at a dealer unless it was a hard to find car and I had to have it. You can always talk them down a grand or two.

If they won't budge the go somewhere else.

The Chevy dealer I use to work for offered me the "employee discount" on a used truck I was looking at. The price was still high, I went and bought one from a used car dealer and got a much better deal.

They were pissed I bought a truck from a competitor but that's what they get for trying to rip me off.

I might go browse some of the shady used car lots. Seems like those don't list their cars online like the main dealerships do on autotrader/cars.com etc.

Heck... this other dealership i sent a request to (hasn't replied back yet) has the same car listed at $17,500 and its been sitting on their lot since April according to the carfax.
