I know the guy isn't in the IFBB but he is still considered a bodybuilder. At first I thought it may have been a joke, but this link confirmed it.

"It" underwent the procedure over a year ago, but news just came out a few days ago. Personally I'm shocked, wasn't a fan of him, but the guy had kids....
Just terrible.

because it's a mental illness. Would you tell a suicidal person it's ok to put a gun to his head as long as he's "not hurting anyone else?" Would you tell an anorexic to continue starving herself as long as she's "not hurting anyone else?" Why is it ok to tell a male to take female hormones and mutilate their penis so they can pretend they are a woman?

It is much more complicated than that. These hypothetical don't help.
Being gay/trans etc. has been here since the beginning of humankind. It might be a little more popular/open nowadays but it was always there. I am sure chances of having psychological issues come with it but it is also having issues with your identity, society and how they perceive you as a being that also makes them socially and emotionally more unstable. The whole thing is messed up but I am sure it wasn't like he decided he felt this way last week.Grainy hardcore religious slabs of thick dense muscle. So grainy that it hurts your eyes

They can do what they want, but they cannot claim what they want without being fallacious.
One cannot claim to be a male and be deemed "correct", when it is a scientifically/biologically inaccurate statement.
Adhering to sex-based stereotypes (behavior/appearance), doesn't make you that actual sex.
Putting cosmetic on your lips/face, dressing like a stereotypical female, and having hair like a stereotypical female, as well as acting like a stereotypical female...doesn't make you a female.
In the same way painting myself green, putting a shell on my back and walking on all fours very slowly...doesn't make me a turtle.
Dexter Jackson could claim to be a turtle, and despite the resemblance, it doesn't make him one.Last edited by RoroCwalker; 07-27-2015 at 09:54 PM.

I'm not sure what to make of this latest "Transgender" buzz. From Jenner to various locals here in Toronto being featured weekly on the mainstream news, one today as young as 12 from Texas, is really quite a puzzling issue imo. I suppose I don't fully understand it as it is likely multifaceted on various levels both mentally/psychologically and physically.

It's not a mental illness according to a lot of the scientific community. It's funny I assume you had no problem with him pumping himself to the gills with males hormones to reach this extreme state of strength and muscularity but if he takes females hormones its a problem? thats a contradiction
Pretty sure it's more about gender identity to them and not actually whether they are physically a male or female. By dressing as a woman, wearing makeup etc. he assumes the identity of a woman even if he physiologically is not one.*Caffeine addict crew*

"Gender identity" is nothing more than stereotypes attributed to a particular sex, within a culture.
Hypothetically, if the stereotypical "woman" in the US is the stereotypical "man" in Japan.
Does Janae Marie become a "man" when he travels to Japan, and switches back to a "woman" when he's back in the US?
The whole idea is based on sex-based stereotypes. (feminine/masculine)

I guess is time to really learn more about transgenders, since it is becoming relevant, and i wouldn't want to say stupid stuff about it.
One thought: If being a transgender is actually a symptom of a mental disorder, there will be a time when people will look back and think "Back then the treatment for this disorder was to cut of your genitals". Reminds me of the horrific first attempts at brain surgery."Kai's traps outsize him, when you compare them to the rest of his body, he's very very thick there, it makes him unbalanced." - Lee Thompson

Matt goes to my gym, he is a really nice guy.
Nothing is wrong with what he is doing, you need to get that out of your head, you dont personally know his life, nor his struggles.
"There has obviously been a great deal of gossip, rumors and questions about me the past few days. To put them to rest: yes, I am transgender/gender fluid.
First, I would like to be clear that I had planned to wait until my sons were out of high school before I became openly public about this. As that no longer is an option, I will address it now.
I have been very open about this for many years among my family, close friends, and in the powerlifting community, but I realize for many of you this has been a huge shock. This is something that I have been dealing with my entire life and has been extremely difficult for me. In fact, it even drove me to consider suicide at one point.
I never wanted nor asked for this, and fought this as hard as I could for a very long time. I have finally reached a point where I am comfortable with and proud of whom I am, even if a lot of people don’t understand.
I have received an unimaginable amount of support and love in the last twenty four hours from family, friends, fans, and strangers alike and I want to thank every single one of you that have reached out to me. It honestly means more to me that I can possibly express with the written word."

Have you ever read about "David Reimer"? It is a famous story here in Canada. His/Her story more than supports the theory that gender identity does NOT develop primarily as a result of social learning from early childhood and that it CANNOT be changed with the appropriate behavioral interventions.
It is a well known story up here in Canada. There are several books and and documentaries on it. You could probably find some of them if you YouTube his name.
COLES NOTES
- There were two healthy twin brothers born.
- The boys developed a medical condition in their genitals as infants.
- The Doctor resorted to circumcision but used a cautery technique (ouch).
- One boy recovered the other had complications rendering his penis useless (they basically burnt his penis beyond repair).
- Parents devastated and concerned how to raise a child without use of their penis.
- Parents consult famous Doctor/Psychiatrist who is "expert" on emerging issues of gender identity.
- Doctor who is very charismatic convinces parents to change the identity/sex of the baby by cutting off his genitals and creating a vagina.
- Doctor says to raise the child as a girl now and that everything will work out just fine, with the now baby girl never knowing she was originally a boy.
- End result is that the girl suffers from serious mental and psychological issues growing up, despite physically being a "girl", she always feels like a boy or like neither.
- She is bullied to no end, suffers depression, anxiety, substance abuse et.
- Ultimately, she is later told in life by her parents of her story, that she was born a boy.
- As an adult she /he ends up committing suicide.
- Doctor's theory and protocol/plan proves to be one with disastrous consequences.

I didn't intend to claim that the 'disorder' did not develop within the brain, before/near birth, or that it did develop through social conditioning.
What I intended to point out, is that the idea of "gender identity", regardless of its point of origin in development, is directly attached to sex-based stereotypes.
There would be no "gender identity" without sex-based stereotypes.
As the story you've presented says; "- Doctor says to raise the child as a girl now and that everything will work out just fine, with the now baby girl never knowing she was originally a boy."
"Raise the child as a girl" basically means to raise the child by adapting them to/teaching them/putting them into the position where they are adhering to stereotypical feminine behaviors and physical appearance.
The issue with this is that it's a psychological 'disorder', and what one feels they are, doesn't make them what they are.
No matter how intensely they're desperately feeling that they're the opposite sex, they aren't.
So, to accustom them, I think people started to obstruct "gender identity" with sex, as a way to help them.
