They don't have to support him or condone his comments. At the same time they don't have to fire him and erase him from wwe hall of fame. The guy who built the company and worked there for 30+ years. They could have easily just suspended him and kept him in hall of fame.

I am hispanic and have been called a beaner on social media/fb numerous times by friends in a **** talking manner, and no one bats an eye, as well as hearing "*******" used around here a LOT....God forbid if I were to through out the "N" word and everyone would lose their minds and call me a racist....LOL at the continued double standards in society today....Hogan messed up big time and he has apologized. On the surface, what Hogan said (and the circumstances surrounding the discovery of said audio) don't reasonably warrant the Benoit treatment. Couple guesses -

- WWE was about to do another round of layoffs, and a bunch will be minorities. So the "racist by association" is coming at a bad time
- Hogan may have been trying to pull some chit backstage, and WWE is using this as an opportunity to not just get rid of him, but effectively bury him in the industry. Keep in mind, Hogan's likely getting $100+ million from his Gawker lawsuit. He may have been trying to leverage his future settlement into gaining more power in the industry.
- WWE, a publicly traded company, already looked pretty bad due to the Del Rio incident. Distancing themselves from Hogan will shield their stock (somewhat).

I don't know why everyone keeps saying "they had to do something, they have to protect their image, etc". Firing him was in order, sure. Not airing Hulk Hogan centered sht on the network, sure. Erasing his legacy completely is out of line.

It is purely they are a corporate company & like any other corporate company want nothing to do with stuff like this-seriously how can they have any credibility standing behind somebody saying that kind of stuff? Think how many sponsors they would lose & how much bad publicity they would get. When the crap storm dies down & he is rehabbed in the public eye they will bring him back.

Doubt Hogan is getting anything like that amount of money if he wins-he could easily lose & end up paying out costs etc.

Agree with the first part, but I wouldn't consider Hogan to be intelligent either. He's clearly ignorant (but so what? everyone is ****ing ignorant) and used a derogatory racist term during a private conversation due to his ignorance. I don't consider that enough to label the man a hateful racist though.

And yes, everyone on some level is partially racist. There have been numerous studies that prove regardless of what race you are, you have unconscious biases towards different racial groups, even your own. It's due to associations acquired through life, stereotypes, statistics, and personal experiences. Even black police officers have made these associations and are more prejudiced and suspicious towards a black civilian walking down the street than they are seeing a white person walking down the street. During simulation studies where people are shown images of different ethnicities holding either a gun or innocent objects participants are more likely to shoot the images of black men holding an innocent object than they are a white man and are quicker to holster their gun when seeing an image of a white man. This goes for all races of participants in the study, i.e. black participants were more likely to shoot the images of innocent black men than white men at the same rate as white participants.

It is total mental laziness because it has been so rooted into people that it becomes almost natural instinct. But everyone is guilty of it to some degree. it's better to actually accept it and actively try to overcome it than to pretend it doesn't exist. The same goes for parents who try to teach their kids to be colorblind. Kids notice differences between ethnic and racial groups and without actually being taught about race in an intelligent and loving way by their parents they grow up developing very problematic views and assumptions about different races.

Nope. I wouldn't want to have a contractual relationship with him right now. Don't agree with essentially removing him from the network/HOF site etc though. And I really don't like the moral outrage and labeling of him based on a kneejerk reaction to a leaked private conversation.

I don't agree with deleting him from history either-they have Benoit on there don't they & probably loads of guys who were wife beaters, cop beaters etc. Problem with filing a lawsuit & seeing it through is the tape contents will become public at some point-Hogan must have known that, the defence will use anything they can to win. Hogan can claim to be religious & claim privacy but he is a public figure filing lawsuits & it will not fly. I have little doubt he will play the game, rehab himself & be forgiven though-Hogan has spent the last 30 years playing the game to his advantage.
