Needless to say, this was a very bad investment on Phil's part. The target market that this shoe is designed for has no F-ing idea who the hell Phil Heath is and therefore would never spend $215 on his shoe. On the other hand, the guy that is familiar with Phil Heath would never purchase this style of shoe as it is ugly as hell. I'd be interested to hear what the gross sales are on this thing.

Incorrect.
Phil is a sneaker head, he has made that known and there is no doubt a decent chunk of his fans are too.
Within that sneaker head fan population, there are the super fans that will buy just about anything Phil puts out.
He has his niche of bodybuilding/fitness, but within that niche based on his personality he is marketing to the sort of people who are crossing over (sneaker heads who happen to be bbers).
This is not a bad investment as it probably cost him next to nothing to make and even if it flops....so what? He can just take em, wear em himself OR use them as incentives and package them to his super fans to get them to buy other stuff. Worst case scenario, he takes em, autographs em and a picture, throws em up on ebay for $100 and is probably tripling (if not making way more money).

THIS - I doubt even FLangmasterJ, Bigslimdaddy and DPNZ would wear these.
These shoes look like they are made in china, the cost price would be less than $10US.
Phil has to be on $150 profit per pair.
Agree with you on the niche part however I would correct you on the profile of the niche by being more specific ------>He is targeting nutthuggers WITHIN the bodybuilding/fitness niche.

They look terrible. I can buy better shoes from the turkish market for a few bucks. I can even order them with the signature 'The Gift" chit conception on them for a few cents more. Of course philly cheese steak would appreciate the support.

If people buy those .99 cent piss jugs with 5% labeled on them for like $10-$15 from Ricky Piana, I'm sure there is also a sad niche/market for these shoes.
No doubt they are made in China for $10 with a huge markup.
It really would be interesting to see the sales figures on these.Last edited by Canuck77; 07-23-2015 at 03:19 PM.

Those shoes are the perfect height for a sh*t and piss target for my 8Yo Jack Russell. Phil has an amazing physique and very successful but I can't stand his arrogance and the crap that dribbles out of his mouth. Also the spanker critercised Arnold's physique to everyone on the inter webs. I can't stand Phil and refuse to watch his training videos or buy his burnt to a crisp looking shoes. Much hate. Hopefully someone flogs him at the Olympia and throws one of his shoes at him during his fake speeches.

I'm not a huge fan of Heath, but people that hate on the product just don't understand how value works.
Value can ONLY be perceived by others, people think because THEY would never buy expensive/niche item XYZ, no one would.
Not how social proof, hype building and actually having a following that is semi-aware that you could be putting out a product like that in the future based on your posts work.
Do people ITT not have niche hobbies/purchases they enjoy? In the same way these people laugh at someone for buying this, what is the utility value of a video game? Of an expensive meal? Of niche hobbies?
"Oh I would never go to Starbucks lmfao @ suckers who do"....Starbucks doing ok
"Oh I would never buy a LV bag lmfao @ suckers who do"....LV doing aite
Audience+social proof+product=#Winning
If the market worked in the subjective because YOU would never buy anything it doesn't get sold, there would be ZERO production in the world apart from food and rags.
Oh and best of all for Heath....the people that laugh/ridicule and mock this actually create a WAY better response for him (indifference would be the ULTIMATE messup for any product), see Flang actually buying a pair as proof of it creating "**** you incentive" for people to buy it.
