Not really sure. I've never done any of the others. I only did IDPA because my exes dad did and he had me go with him (probably to show me that he could outshoot me and therefore should treat his daughter well). They use different targets...but aside from that Im not really familiar with USPSA, or any other shooting sports.

I wasnt hatting, I actually pointed out that he could get DQ for waiving the gun like that.
A lot of people I know use IDPA to practice with their carry gear, use their concealed holster and are more interested in honing their skills that winning a match. But you have to be clear that this is a game. You dont load your mags with 10 bullets (unless you are in one of those ****gy states) right ? some of the rules try to make sense and be tactical and real but still is a race game
Some matches have prizes ... i think is more bragging rights
i love the story and designs of stages
I like the chill environment of IDPA and also like that you cant have space guns
gun, 3 mags ( unless you are doing BUG or 1911 ) holster and something to cover the gun , it doesnt have to be a vest
i got sum bad newz
IDPA -
need less gear.
MAx 18 shoots per stage,
There is a certain order on how to engage the targets
no space guns,
simple scoring system that adds to your time depending where you hit the target.
focus more on marksmanship than speed
USPSA -
Allows double belts,
space holsters and space mag pouches
Stages can be shoot freestyle , you decide how to engage
stages can be 30+ shoots
scoring system is more complicated with hit factor taken in consideration.
Speed is critical
Space guns
do it *******

Oh wow. I have a G19, owb holster and 4 mags. I just want to shoot.
I have a Columbia PFG shirt. Think I'd be good to tuck two mags IWB have my gun OWB and the shirt over?
IDK about other states, but in NC, you can conceal without a permit with permission from the property owner."Take a course in good water and air; and in the eternal youth of Nature you may renew your own. Go quietly, alone; no harm will befall you." -John Muir

to participate in any event you have to follow your state laws. I dont know what laws apply in your state but when you get to a range, you can carry, open carry , conceal without breaking any laws .
Im talking by my experience . for example in PR , you have one of the most restricted gun laws in the USA. but you can carry in a range/ store without a ccw
that sounds like the perfect setup. google. IDPA carolina cup ... there is a some big clubs in NC and SC.
most of the guys in my club just use a shirt over their guns, like baseball jerseys or just bottom up shirts

I was asking a serious question. No hate intended. I see people doing the range kata of the scan and assess, but they aren't looking for anything or looking at anything. From a defensive standpoint they're training themselves to meaninglessly swivel their head after shooting someone. This is bad for all kinds of reasons, especially if you shoot a ton of drills with the same number of shots fired. When I ask that question I usually either don't get an answer to that question or the answer is an incredibly generic forced one like "uhh the other targets". I was asking to bring up a point that might enhance his shooting from a practical standpoint, not to deride him for using IDPA as practice.
