I'm headed to Seattle, Washington to see Mt. Rainier among other things at the end of July

Any tips on specific locations for the best photo ops?

Also I am taking my 24-70 and 11-16, but not sure if I should bother with the 70-200 due to weight and I imagine most of my shots will be wider than 70mm anyway. What would you guys do? Planning on doing a lot of hiking so it would save my back a bit as well as free up some room in my bag for clothes/food

I haven't done weddings yet but my first one is in a few months (by myself).

What other lenses do you have? You've got the 24-70, so something that covers 70mm and higher would be better than the 50 in my opinion.

As the secondary shooter, maybe pay attention to what the main shooter is doing and work off that. If he/she is photographing the bride and groom, glance around and see if there are photo opportunities with the guests. Meaning candid photos of their reactions and things like that. Same thing if it's the other way around. Photos of the smaller details would be good as well: floral arrangements, table layouts at the reception etc.

good plan, but you cant get a shot similar to the sample you posted without a telephoto. i would definitely pack that in. i can't remember the name of the location of that spot in the shot, but you can search google for good photo locations in seattle and find a lot of good info.

better off with the 24-70 and a 100mm macro lens. no point repeating focal lengths. You'll just be wasting time and fumbling to switch lenses.

i agree. some good mountain shots can only be done with a longer focal length, since wide angle pushes them way too far.

better to have it than not.

hey guys, I'm shooting at a wedding tomorrow and new some advice. I'm going to be the secondary shooter at this wedding and wanted to get any tips who have done weddings.

    Ill be working with two lens, 50mm 1.8 & 24-70mm 2.8
Do the opposite of what your primary shooter is doing. If they're going wide, go telephoto, if they're going telephoto, go wide. If they're shooting from the front, then shoot from the side, if they're doing side shots, shoot from the front.

Also, what camera are you working with? Full frame or crop? Do you have a backup camera? (I'll assume crop) As another poster mentioned you're overlapping lenses there. I'd leave the 24-70 on if you can since it's more flexible and things move fast at a wedding. The 50 is a great backup for the 24-70. See if you can get your hands on a 100/105mm macro f/2.8 or an 85mm f/1.8. (though time is short if it's tomorrow...)

Indoors or outdoors? Are you able to use flash? Shoot raw and maybe underexpose a bit to keep shutterspeed up if you run into a darker area. At least you can try to avoid blur and can fix exposure in post.... can't really fix blur. Use the highest ISO you possibly can for the situation to keep shutterspeed up as well. If things get darker roll over to the 50mm.

Edit - disclosure ; i've never shot a wedding, but have friends who have and have done a lot of research in anticipation of maybe being a second shooter this fall.... so take with grains of salt...

I have been chasing this Black-crowned Night Heron for a while. usually shows up at the stormwater lake around 9pm. finally was able to get close without it flying off. surprisingly, it came closer to me.

Sick shot man! Did you do anything specific during post-processing to give it that dreamy sort of look?
