I used to think like this then I watched a security video inside a jewelry store that got robbed. A customer looked over his shoulder, saw two guys coming in armed, stood up, drew his pistol, missed racking the slide one time and by the time he got his hand back on the slide to try again he was shot...died 10 seconds later.
