Why do you keep exaggerating and lying? I never said politicians shouldn't adapt their views - meanwhile, YOU did say that European countries were "miles ahead" of the US, even though your own cited page shows we're right there in the middle of them.
BRB...
Gay marriage is bad if that's what might me elected, then it's good when that's more convenient
Debt & spending is bad if that's what gets me elected, then it's someone else's fault when it explodes under my signature
Wars are bad if that's what gets me elected, then more & expanded wars are good if that's what I feel like
Public campaign financing is the only good answer if that's what will get me the nomination, then private funding is better if it gets me elected
Tax cuts are bad, until I want to continue and expand them
Domestic surveillance is bad, unless I'm running those surveillance programs
Etc, etc, etc....
Sorry, but with years of flip-flopping positions whenever it's personally or politically convenient for Obama, don't you think it's a bit naive to claim this is a topic where he honestly and solemnly chose to discard his lifetime of religious beliefs?

When you say 'gets him elected', what you mean is 'agrees with what the current ideas in society'. Since politicians are supposed to represent their citizens, in what world is this a bad thing? You are basically suggesting that, despite the majority of people now supporting gay marriage and there being no logical reason to oppose it, he should stick to his old biblical views solely in the interest of not 'flop flopping'? Yeah, I'd love a president like that! Some of your bullet points there have nothing whatsoever to do with flip flopping in the interest of getting elected, as well.
This goes beyond Obama and touches on some completely backwards and nonsensical view you seem to take of politicians as a whole.

You're only upset because his views are not your own. If Obama had previously been pro-gay marriage and then changed his mind citing "deep-held religious beliefs" you would either be hailing him as "brave" or, more likely, not posting at all.
Inb4 you tell me that I'm wrong, because we both know. Politicians change stances all the time for political gain. More importantly, maybe he actually changed his mind. Intelligent people change stances all the time. There is nothing inherently impressive or noble about picking a stance and sticking with it no matter what. It's that kind of hard-headedness that makes progress such a long-winded thing in this country.*Misc Med Crew*

Why the need to lie about my positions? I have no problem with gay marriage. I have a huge problem with the Federal Government telling States how to run their own governments, well outside Constitutional authority. I have a problem with lying, flip-flopping opportunistic politicians who do whatever works out best for them at the moment.

You're right. The Supreme Court does not have the authority to pass decisions affecting the whole country if the issue could be handled by the states. I forgot civics again.
EDIT: remember that time they told the states they couldn't keep black kids from going to school with white kids! LAWL fukkin supreme court. Classic supreme court.*Misc Med Crew*

The fundamental ideal of progressivism is a desire to change social norms. Progressives (liberals) will always attempt to change social norms. Many of today's progressives will be tomorrows conservatives, the new breed of progressives will fight for legalized ****philia, polygamy, etc.

So if I do not align my thinking with what you think it should be....I'm a racist?
Of course each person has the right to oppose the liberal progressive way of thinking. And I have every right to call those people what they are - crazy.
You are what you despise.

These stats are biased, as unlike most european countries we are a multicultural nation, with a 62% white population. Once you take our detroits and little mexicos out of the equation...our rankings, etc get much higher...and thats the sad truth. We actively import poverty to the tune of 20 million illegals...and millions more legally from 3rd world countries...geez, you think that has any bearing on our overall numbers/rankings etc.....on everything?

It's pretty likely that Obama really is an atheist. He supported gay marriage before he ran for president, and everyone with two brain cells knows "civil unions" are just a euphemism for the real thing. The post-hoc reasoning of "as a politician, there are the things I believe for myself and there are the things I believe the people of this country want me to do" does come across as a little half assed, though it does have some sense to it.
What's really much more distressing are the people who lack the two brain cells to comprehend this. We should start a charity drive to increase their neuron count slightly. Maybe we can harvest them from pigs or something.

I have to admit that this past week has been one of the more hilarious weeks in quite some time. I honestly expected the SCOTUS to rule against Obamacare and for marriage equality, but the ruling in favor of both have brought unlimited lulz.
Some of the GOP candidates played things decently, while the clowns who have 0.0% chance (Huckabee, Cruz, Jindal) reacted in their expected American Taliban fashion.
