I know it's a BB forum but there are some ladies here training for strength rather than aesthetics I'm sure. Shout yourselves out, love to give you a follow x

A bit of both... Aesthetics are important but I do like to improve my lifts and feel strong. Goal this year was a 3 plate deadlift (up to 130kg) I'm not getting there though as I've started to cut now.
Bench press: current 65kg, goal 70kg
Squat: current 75kg, goal 90kg
Deadlift: current 100kg, goal 120kg

I do both, it's a cycle.
Right now I'm deep into contest prep, so when I'm seriously cutting it generally means I won't be putting up the numbers I really want to...
But every off season I'm driving for those PRs.... They keep climbing and that is really satisfying!2020 Olympia Bound | NPC WPD Nationally Qualified | 2018 Arnold Amateur WPD Top 3 | 2x WPD Pro World Champion (INBA/DFAC)

I was in it for strength but I think I am now in it for aesthetics. I have had to come to terms with the fact that I am never going to be able to lift super heavy. I love it and will keep shooting for PBs but now it is all about building muscle to then cut to get the body I want (or as close as I can)

Yes! In it for big numbers, lifts are pretty strong, would mean a lot to me to bust 200 on bench finally, so close. Also in it to deal with rage of everyday life, srs, am miserable when I can't lift and rampage it out. Aesthetics meh, but do like being a larger chick at 170-180 arms of death and destruction in tank tops. Have been working my ass off at pull ups and chin ups, getting better at those is my main goal right now, they're tough but really fun.
Current PRs:
Bench Press: 200x1
Deads: 315x1
Back Squats: 275x1

I'm on big on numbers too! They make the gym exciting. Have a number in my head each week and determined on hitting it. That is the best feeling. The aesthetics are a big bonus and a sculpted human physique is a beautiful thing imo.
Everything you've ever wanted, is on the other side of fear.
PR:
Squat 205
Bench 130
Deadlift 245

Really enjoyed hearing about how you all love being the strongest that you can. Looking pretty good too tho girls! Look forward to keeping up with your goals/progress ladies...There's no one at my gym that powerlifts not even the men, so i just wanted to seek out some like minded souls. Sophie and bubsnbean (love your avatar btw) I hope your injuries resolve soon x

I'm here for both, I won't lie. I was an obese kid...then anorexic and then a runner. I still run but....that whole "skinny fat" thing? Yeaaahhh.
I am starting to believe all the crazy people who tell me that picking up these heavy things will actually make me skinny/fit. So I do want the look...but also I want to squat, deadlift and bench my body weight.
Or those were my goals when I started. I'm super proud to say that I dead lifted my first plates (which is more than I weigh) in April!!!! WHOO!!!
I've gotten the squat up to 100. Hoping to get to 110 soon but I switched plans so I backed off some.
Bench press is where I struggle the most...but it's getting there. YAY lifting!!!!

Both.
Can't have one without the other. If you don't like how you look, you won't take care of yourself and therefore won't have the chance to bring up numbers,
If you lift heavy and look like crap, you'll lose mad motivation.
Its all mental and you need a good dose of both to succeed in my opinion.I lift things up and put them down.

Was in it for both, but age, creaky joints and osteopenia keep me from pushing the weight limits too hard. At this point in my life, an injury takes waaaaayyyyy too long to heal - if it ever does heal, lol! I am happy with the way my body looks, and I am pretty strong for my size, so in maintenance mode for now

I am a big believer that once you get to a certain level of performance combined with progressive overload, the aesthetics usually come with that. You get a pretty good set of glutes when you can rep a 1.5 x BW deadlift, for example. Of course this is all assuming that one has a good grip on nutrition and their body's needs.

Me too !
Crossfit for 2 years, i realized last summer that powerlifting was my favorite part. I'm thinking about joining a powerlifting club in September, since I need new challenges.
Aesthetic is important too, but for me, it is not a good reason to be in the gym at 6:30 AMYeah... I guess I should join the Over 35 Forum now, right ?
