"At some point, we as a country will have to reckon with the fact that this kind of mass violence does not happen in other advanced countries. It doesn't happen in other places with this kind of frequency."
Obama couldn't be more right.
In the last 30ish years there have been almost 80 mass shootings in the US, far greater than any total in any other civilized developed country. 38 in from 2009 - 2013. To put this in prospective, UK - 1, Canada - 2, France - 3, Germany 3. But gun nuts would have you believe that the whole world suffers from this problem.
but but but banning guns will just make us law abiding citizens unarmed and the criminals will keep getting them illegally! They don't follow the rules!
But they fuken do follow the rules.
If you have an IQ over 50 you should realize this is a fuken problem.
These killers target gun free zones! If I was there with my AR-15 I would have mowed this guy down the second he entered the church. I would have used my terminator vision, saw he was packing and boom dead before he even knew what's up!
Oh really? Gun free zones huh? So what did they have at the Dallas police station? BB guns? Maybe, just maybe mental people attack places they want to regardless if there is a threat. Maybe kids attack their schools because its the center of the their world. But nah, they do it because its a GUN FREE ZONE1!!1! This isn't a bank robbery where people are looking for the least resistance, they are going to places that have caused them some sort of distress.
The 2nd amendment lets us all have guns and that's what should happen! Everyone should have guns, this will prevent crime! No one will commit crimes if there are tons of guns out there!
Funny because a Harvard study proved more guns = more murders. Who would have fuken thought? Seems common sense is lacking in the gun nut circle.
Gun control doesn't work!
Don't be fooled by gun nuts lies that gun control doesn't work. They like to site D.C. as their go to example, but they are too dumb to understand that a fuken city where 500,000+ people go in and out of freely daily isn't a good example that gun control doesn't work. Maybe if there was a giant wall surrounding the city and every person was searched bringing guns in AND THEN IT FAILED, you would have an argument. You need to go bigger than a city. Like a fuken state. And surprise, guess what the facts show:
In 2011, economist Richard Florida dove deep into the correlations between gun deaths and other kinds of social indicators. States with tighter gun control laws appear to have fewer gun-related deaths.
And now we wait for the gun nuts to spew "Nice liberal propaganda, my info from hillbilly joe's website counters your arguments!"

Crazy people still do crazy things. Boston bombers, OKC bombing, etc. We need to take a closer look on how the mentally ill are treated in this country. All men are not created equal, and we need to realize that before going after the dangerous inanimate objects that kill people on their own.

Guns don't need to be made illegal. As a matter of a fact, we should be able to own automatic weapons --considering criminals will have them. The thing is, when you adopt a kid, you can't just walk in one day and purchase on right off the back. They screen people who will be fit and people who would not. You should have to, at a minimal, go through 6 months of training, have background check, and mental health check. Assuming you make it through, most Americans should be able to own one.

I never claimed to be an expert on solving the problem, I'm just not dumb enough to ignore there is a fuken serious problem.
An easy and over the top way (not saying the best way) would to put a ban on production of firearms and ammunition for non government contracts and make the penalty of being caught with a firearm very very serve (like 20+ years in prison severe) and any crime committed with a firearm is automatic life. Sure this is going to cause a lot of issues at first and cost a ton of money, but over time it would work.
In the short term you need to make it super super super hard to buy a gun and illegal to give a gun to anyone else. You shouldn't be allowed to fail a background check for a gun, and then have your buddy buy you one and then bam you got a gun and the law says its okay.| ♫Audiophile♫ | To ∞ & → | The Ohio State University Alumni |

US population : 319 million
UK population : 64 million
France population : 66 million
And the US shares a large border with a 3rd world poverty stricken country. Europe doesn't have that problem.
Please tell me more about how you want to compare US vs UK vs France vs other countries.Last edited by CalmWind; 06-21-2015 at 11:01 AM.

Federal law prohibits straw purchases by criminalizing the making of false statements to an FFL about a material fact on ATF Form 4473, or presenting false identification in connection with the firearm purchase. Two federal statutes – 18 U.S.C. § 922(a)(6) and 18 U.S.C. § 924(a)(1)(A) – are the primary laws under which straw purchases are prosecuted.
Imagine that. There is a law against that.
First, 18 U.S.C. § 922(a)(6) prohibits any person:
[I]n connection with the acquisition or attempted acquisition of any firearm or ammunition from a licensed importer, licensed manufacturer, licensed dealer, or licensed collector, knowingly to make any false or fictitious oral or written statement or to furnish or exhibit any false, fictitious, or misrepresented identification, intended or likely to deceive such importer, manufacturer, dealer, or collector with respect to any fact material to the lawfulness of the sale or other disposition of such firearm or ammunition.
Subject to limited exceptions, 18 U.S.C. § 924(a)(1)(A) imposes criminal penalties, such as fines and imprisonment, upon any person who:
[K]nowingly makes any false statement or representation with respect to the information required by [federal firearms law] to be kept in the records of a person licensed under [federal firearms law] or in applying for any license or exemption or relief from disability under the provisions of [federal firearms law].
These false statements or representations are punishable by a fine of up to $250,000 and up to 10 years in prison.14
