So usually when I wake up I'm not always hungry right away. Some days I am but it's rare. Now I'm not a huge fan of shakes or any heavy liquid on my stomach.
I'm curious for ideas on what you eat early AM that's light in the GI (oatmeal/cereal I know the basics just looking for suggestions I could be overlooking) or how long after waking do you eat?

I know exactly how you feel. I workout every morning but am NEVER hungry (Unless I don't eat much at dinner the night before). I also find it really difficult to gain weight so I force myself to eat. Not a lot, anywhere from 600 - 700 calories to give me energy for my workout and get in some protein and cals for the day.
It depends on if you're trying to gain weight/muscle or lose fat though. If it's the latter, you could go with some cereal and berries along with a protein source like some eggs or chicken breast (What I have every morning). Morning is a critical time for nutrients, but don't eat so much that you won't want to eat anything later. However, I would recommend have more of a complete meal if you're trying to add mass. To get in my cals, I stick to a higher fat diet (Since I have a small appetite) and eat a lot of hard-boiled eggs and natural PB. They don't fill me up, but give me good quality fats and protein.

I always eat breakfast would go mental if I couldn't fit it in. I usually eat within half an hour of waking up or an hour at the latest. My diet routine is pretty rigid, eat at the same times usually every day so I always get hungry around the time I'm about to eat and breakfast is no different.
I usually have rolled oats with semi-skimmed milk on the days I lift. On the days I run I have 2 slices of wholemeal bread either with peanut butter (the good stuff 100% peanuts not the sugary oily junk) or butter and marmite and then 2 boiled eggs. On the days I rest I'll eat something random for the variety.Bench -216lbs

i love a bowl of cereal.
any reason you want to eat so early? i used to not be hungry when i wake up, but since switching to liftining the morning, i find it's good to get some food in mah belly beforehand. i've also found that the more i eat right before bed, the hungrier i tend to be in the morning. I train in the morning so I always knock out some cream of rice with almond butter and hershey syrup along with a bowl of sludge. Even if I'm not hungry, I know I'll get hungry during my workout so I just eat anyways.
