What do welfare recipients do to give back to the society that nurtures them? How do they repay the incredibly hard-working tax payers of this country, whom without they would starve? How do they show their appreciation to a country that, without capitalism, would have them in third-world poverty like communist Venezuela?
Do they realize how fortunate they are, and how that every handout that they receive has to be funded by hard work?

They give the private and public sector jobs that otherwise wouldn't exist and relieve the net amount of suffering in the world that would ensue from having those job opportunities removed.
Unless you'd rather have stockboys at Wal-Mart have to turn to mugging people to pay rent? Not all of us are sexy enough to sell handjobs for cash, OPie.

1. What percentage of the Federal budget goes to welfare, and what percentage goes to foreign (often humanitarian) aid? What percent goes directly to Israel (lone democratic ally in the Middle-East)?
2. Does "holding a job" at one point entitle you to lounge off the system for the rest of your life?
3. What do welfare recipients give back?░░░░░░░░▄▄▄▄░░░░░░░░

1) 13% goes to safety net programs. The military budget is well over 20%, and mostly serves the goals of foreign nations.
2) Who's logging off?
3) They're US citizens. Many raising kids, many still working or will be back to work.
What kind of low-level questions are these? Welfare jumped after the 2007 recession. The real issue is the economy, and the job market.6'3 Master Race

So wait......you think those who paid into Soc. Sec are getting handouts? and that Veteran/Retiree benefits are handouts? Because you asked this question..."Do they realize how fortunate they are, and how that every handout that they receive has to be funded by hard work?"
Do you even understand the numbers you post?

As someone who works around government housing a lot I can say most individuals in government housing have big screen tv's in every room of the house, have the newest iphone, drive either a decent vehicle with bigazz rims or a newish vehicle, use cash to buy cigs, beer, etc. and uses food stamps to buy quality foods (hundreds of dollars worth of food). Not uncommon to see people who are unemployed have 4-6 children (And getting government checks for all because baby daddy is in prison, unknown, or is unemployed) etc. Most of these people are just leaches who offer nothing of value to society, their crotch fruit is our next prison population (because they spend 0 time raising them), etc. One could argue they 'stimulate the economy' by spending those government dollars at small businesses, etc. but meh.
Most of these people aren't out applying for jobs and their plan for the future doesn't stretch much further then what club they're going to next weekend.
Welfare/foodstamps would be great for mentally ill/physically handicapped people who can't earn a living. A family where the primary breadwinner loses his job and needs a temporary boost until they find new employment, etc. But the sad fact is a lot of recipients have no ambition to further their life.
Again, I deal with these people on a near daily basis so I've a pretty good idea of what your typical welfare recipient is like.
Capitalism/ the hard working mofos who want to succeed/have nice things are 100% whats keeping this country afloat.

Safety net programs: About 11 percent of the federal budget in 2014, or $370 billion, supported programs that provide aid (other than health insurance or Social Security benefits) to individuals and families facing hardship. Spending on safety net programs declined in both nominal and real terms between 2013 and 2014 as the economy continued to improve.
These programs include: the refundable portions of the Earned Income Tax Credit and Child Tax Credit, which assist low- and moderate-income working families through the tax code; programs that provide cash payments to eligible individuals or households, including Supplemental Security Income for the elderly or disabled poor and unemployment insurance; various forms of in-kind assistance for low-income families and individuals, including SNAP (food stamps), school meals, low-income housing assistance, child care assistance, and assistance in meeting home energy bills; and various other programs such as those that aid abused and neglected children.

So of this 11 percent, what percent are non-deserving leeches? And remember, this 11% includes more than just "welfare".
