Thumbs up Transformation from anorexia (male)

I posted these on the misc but I figure I would be better making a thread here and updating it here instead of there.

15 y/o 2 months or so before hospital so I lost more weight than this but can't find older pics

Damn this is hard to look at, prob 2-3 weeks before i was in hospital. Face of death and i couldnt even see it at the time

16 y/o after hospital tried to lift and joined bodybuilding.com (2008) but I was mentally exhausted and still depressed, I quit and instead got addicted to WoW again plus weed and drinking often. I also dropped out of school

Quit smoking/drinking started lifting at 20. Progress pic I made before/after 2 months into lifting

    1.5 years in I think

Congrats on the awesome (and lifesaving) transformation. You looked really good even after the two months and had a great physique at 1.5 years in. Looking really thick and dense now and looking strong. What is your weight in the latest shredded pics and what are your lifts like?

    Squat 165kg/363lbs
    Deadlift 190kg/418lbs

    Thank you!!

When I was sick I was probably sitting around 40kg/85-90lbs, before I started lifting sitting at around 60kg/130lbs, after that long bulk I was at 78kg/172lbs and now I've cut right now down to 65kg/143lbs! I got measured in between 8-9% bodyfat on a 4 point calliper test yesterday so I'm really happy with that

My lifts aren't great at the moment, I've lost a bit of strength but before I cut my lifts were:

3x5 low bar squat (belt): 172.5kg
    1x5 deadlift (no belt): 175kg
    3x5 pause: 95kg
3x5 OHP (pause on this too at the bottom): 62.5kg

Not bad for my body weight. I'm hoping that as I reverse diet my strength will come back and I'll have an awesome wilks score lol

That's an awesome squat ... that would translate to a 200kg single! 200kg dead as well ... 3 x BW for both

    EXCELLENT ****ING JOB!

This is why I wish I was naturally skinny instead of fat, because I live to eat and I think it would be so much easier to gain muscle than to lose fat.

Holy crap! Seeing that before picture is definitely shocking considering how far you have come. But it is amazing that you were able to overcome both the physical as well a psychological struggles of anorexia and were able to turn your life around and get to a healthy weight! You look incredible man! Would love to be in the shape you are in lol but still a long way to go! Keep inspiring people with your story!

Haha I stumbled on these old pics a couple of months ago and was amazed myself!

It was a very gradual process, after being forced into hospital and being refed it was just a matter of time I think. I really can't pinpoint where I turned things around to be honest, I still am a bit OCD on the diet/lifting at times but when that happens I just stop myself and tell myself that I would gain a lot more from life by being a bit more relaxed about things rather than being constantly obsessed with something.

You look incredible man! Would love to be in the shape you are in lol but still a long way to go! Keep inspiring people with your story!
Thank you, nice transformation in your AVI you look to be doing very well. Just a matter of keeping your nose to the grindstone when you feel like giving up

That is some seriously inspiring stuff right there, i started lifting solidly and consistently around 3 months ago, when i started i was still dealing with depression which has put my life on hold for the past 3+ years, i still have my lazy days due to not having a clue what i want to do with my life but working out and being healthy has pretty much got rid of the depression, its amazing how clear and sharp i feel and it feels like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders

i guess you feel the same way?

Quick Question: Do you think the anorexia had helped you in the sense that you had barely any fat to begin with, so you didn't have to do any work to lose fat, and all you had to do was build muscle?

Awesome, congrats , glad you recovered well op.

Can we get some more insight as to what kind of program you were on and how often you trained, bulked etc.

    Thank you!

Yeah, it has helped me in that I want to improve my life as a whole now and not just in the gym. I have a very obsessive nature so that's just something I need to keep in check. I want to enjoy life as a whole and not just the gym

Not really to be honest, I didn't start lifting until I was 20. The anorexia occurred when I was 16 and I believe I recovered at 17, though I still didn't eat much until I was 20 (I lived on Pringles and Pepsi Max when I did eat. I was a complete stoner lol). I did like to stay quite thin, but starting out I was somewhere between skinny/skinnyfat.

I have bulked too hard at certain points and reached between 15-20% body fat and had to deal with cutting all that fat but I have never really found dieting that hard. I know all the techniques of filling up on low calorie foods, drinking loads of water and diet soda when I have cravings and distracting myself from food

Thanks guys, my routine was ICF 5X5 pretty much the whole time, I did switch to PPL for a while but I was doing it 6 days a week and started incurring injuries, particularly from all the pressing so I went back to ICF 5x5 and ate more and got some good gains.

I'll also be switching to this version of 5/3/1 once I reach my full surplus and have regained the strength I lost on my current cut

Diet wise I usually eat at a good surplus (with IIFYM of course, I try not to go full pop-tart mode though). I didn't mind the fat gain since I knew I could cut, however for my next bulk I will be trying to stay lean, I'm currently starting my reverse diet. You can add me on MyFitnessPal if you want

Wow that is good solid progress! Going from an ED to what you currently sit at now is top notch!

Also, I would love to know your bulking routine please?
Fresh in the game, keep your calm with me ;)

    Thanks fellas, appreciated

Jared, I just use IIFYM. On my last bulk I was eating a lot of food, reaching close to 3.5k calories near the end just to keep gaining strength and avoid stalling on my lifts. I loved the energy and the gains but I also acquired a good amount of fat which I have cut out now and will be going back to a lean bulk!

Here's my diary on MyFitnessPal if you want to see what I've been eating. I've been tracking my food intake for years now
