Justin Way was in his bed with a knife, threatening self-harm. His girlfriend called a non-emergency number to try to get him into a hospital. Minutes later, he was shot and killed in his bedroom by cops with assault rifles.

Cops are not health professionals or social workers-they get called to something like this knowing somebody is armed & in a volatile state of mind & that person lunges for them chances are they will be shot. There was a very similar case involving some huge built porn actor 2-3 years back whose stage name was Sledge Hammer where pretty much the same thing happened & he also died.

As someone who has called those hotlines before and had police officers come to the house and take me to the hospital, this just adds a whole other level of paranoia and fear for calling for help.

I am very aware of the cops POV. They are called into a house where an individual is armed- they have absolutely no idea if he is violent towards anyone. But once they were in the house and they see the guy is in bed wouldn't they resort to force, I don't know? Less deadly?

I disagree with the comment about the gun coming from a handgun or a rifle, yes the result is the same death but the intention of the police officers totally different. They went in with rifles for the intention of killing him not intention of helping him. The rifles says a stronger message.

I could be reading too much into this, just a observation.

They entered the area with no exit strategy that didn't involve the guy's death. The proper protocol has to be to stand on the other side of the door and talk him into putting down the knife not storming the place. This is gross negligence murder. Kunts should hang.
