Says an Aimpoint on a SCAR makes it an AR with just pricier ammo? .308 is a hell of a lot more effective than 5.56. You can set that SCAR up for any number of roles. If you want it to be your main rifle and have the Aimpoint on it then do it. I don't get what you mean by it's like an AR just because it has an Aimpoint.

The M1A isn't outdated, just like the M2 isn't outdated. Are there better options? Probably for most applications, if you're willing to spend the money but if you need to hit better than minute of man at a thousand yards, you'll be spending a lot more than an M1A or SCAR anyway. Minute of man is all you need unless you're wrapping yourself in a quilt and getting in position to try and suck your own dick while shooting. The M1A and SCAR will do just that.

The SCAR 17 is best suited to be a battle rifle. If you want something to set up as a DMR in 7.62 then go top tier AR-10s like SRs and M110s. If you're looking for something on the cheaper side go M1A

Thats why I was saying I'd almost rather sell the SCAR and build an SBR and AR10 with the $$$$. Im not saying .308 isn't better, if I was going to war I'd take a SCAR over an AR any day. But for what I'm using it for, I'm struggling to see the purpose. I feel like the SCAR needs something with magnification to truly take hold of its potential, thats why I'm saying that the aim point is holding it back. It probably doesn't help that I haven't been able to zero it and try it yet though. Overall I think I will keep the SCAR and find a way to set it up right.

And I'm not hating on M1As, I'm saying that for the money there are better options (AR10). They're sexy as fuk, and they do well despite some of their design flaws like mounting optics and having to do something with the shims/rezero every time you clean it (don't know exactly what this is, some friends that had them in the army were talking about dis). I'd take an M1A like Ike's any day if it wasn't like 4k lol.

A .308 rifle can be used as a CQB/close quarters rifle with a zero magnification optic. It just depends how you want to set the weapon up. If you have no use for it in that role and would prefer it to be a DM type rifle then obviously an Aimpoint will not fit the bill. That's why a lot of SCAR 17s are being paired with SpecterDRs, just yolo buy one

I would go M1A over a normal AR-10 for a DM role any day. You can build an M1A for a lot cheaper than you could an SR/M110 tier AR-10. An M1A EBR isn't going to run you 4k, unless you're factoring in everything you need for it including quality glass. I don't think you can get an SR/M110 without glass for 4k.

HD helmet cam footage of al-Qaeda in Syria attacking an outpost. Pretty intense. They were efficient and moved with purpose. In the beginning the helmet cam dude displays why shooting and moving is not a good idea unless in very close quarters.

I don't know chit about M1As, so I can't really disagree with what you're saying since you actually have experience with them lol. Overall, I need to shoot more so I can figure out what the fuk I'm doing and what roles my guns need to fill. I think I just want the scar to do general battle rofl things, but be able to ring steel at long range. I just hate spending money on optics lol, thats why I'm so indecisive about how to set it up.
