Trying to read a book per week. For a while I have been reading more cerebral stuff, so I decided to go a little lighter the next few books.

So is that combo done all on the rings? In my head I'm picturing a deconstructed muscle-up
Nice to take the time to read. I need a beach holiday for the chance to really catch up on my reading. I usually mix some heavy non-fiction books with trashy crime novels
I do have Kelly Starrett's 'Becoming a Supple Leopard' that I plan to read fro cover to cover at some stage"Better to wear out than rust out!"

I saw "Supple Leopard" in a local bookstore and that one has always been on my wish list too. The gymnastics is mostly just basic preparatory work for the 7 fundamentals and also handstand basics. As far as gymnastics goes, I use the rings for hinge-rows but I occasionally do some ring dips.

This was from earlier this year. I'm hoping to really bump up my max on these and will be testing soon. I have been working quite a bit in sub-maximal weights, but with way more frequency and adding load incrementally---hope this works

That chin vid with 2 plates is great: you keep it tight and controlled and go for the full range ... I see so many weighted pull-ups where it really is a 'kip' and they never reach full extension at the bottom. So is the plan to get back up on the weights and challenge this?
Your BW work is always impressive: seriously mirin' sets of 8 dips with a plate hanging, John"Better to wear out than rust out!"

Thanks Andrew! Yeah, I'm trying to get those numbers up---every so often I get the urge to change things up with the routine, but I keep reminding myself that it's better to stay the path and focus on these lifts. Progression is very slow but steady. I'm almost into the 3rd week of my second cycle with this plan and am not quite sure yet to use week 4 as a deload of sorts, test my maxes, or just add weight and keep progressing. These weights have been very sub-maximal and I don't feel burnt out or anything so I'll have to evaluate in the coming week.

In continuation of my "light" reading (these last two books were feather-light) I stepped back to my adolescence and guitar rock interests and read this one. I may continue on this trend or dive into something a little heavier this week. Should be starting up a new job within the next week and hope I have a short break in between as I would like to take my son on a short trip if time and finances allow.Workout Log:

Thanks gentlemen! Hey Charlie I tried to watch your vid from the link but it won't let me for some reason. Hope the training is going great! I haven't used any supps whatsoever for a long while except fish oil, multi/greens and of course red wine, but I do have some creatine leftover. What do you guys recommend as far as dosage?

Just a drive by hey, John! It's funny, how goals change depending on how life changes. I had two injuries this past year, so I would like to regain strength and following 5x5. [And, I'm following Zen Buddhism now.] It ties in well with lifting and running, interestingly. Keeping a journal is definitely good for accountability, agree...I keep one in the bodyspace area. You look like you're doing great things as always, hoping you get out of this what you're looking for! Good luck with this new plan.

Indeed. I think for some of us Charlie the experimentation and process we go through is just as interesting as the results we achieve.
Thank You Sharon! What type of injuries did you have? Very cool on the Buddhism, as I agree spirituality ties in so much with this fitness lifestyle. I often think that most predispose themselves to whatever faith they happen to have grown up with. I think it is awesome to explore spirituality and see what speaks to you.
I'm glad to see meditation becoming more and more mainstream with all the great benefits. Thanks for stopping in here!Workout Log:

Well, I’ve had a herniated disk in my neck for a while, and that acted up with squats, then I was losing my grip during a DL set one day, and ‘’yanked’’ the bar up on the right side, and omg…the pain! That caused a bout with sciatica for like 4 months. So, the SL 5x5 plan is helping build some strength back, safely. I love that plan.
Regarding Buddhism, yeah, I followed Christianity since childhood without question. I finally decided to question it a few years ago, and over time, just grew away from it. Buddhism has many paths to follow, I particularly like Zen. It is probably the most ‘lenient’ of them all. Lol
Have a great day, and I’ll be lurking. Your journals are always positive. Keep up your strong work in here!

Sorry to hear that. It's not a frequent thing, but if I squat with the bar too high, it happens. I can't seem to make the switch to front squats. lol
Have you tried adding some Yoga to your routine? I think there is some value there and may provide some prehab too. Thanks Sharon!
Have a good rest of your week, and glad to have caught up with you here!

Thanks Sharon! I was thinking about the squat bar positioning and if you still work out at home maybe one of these devices would be a good investment.

Expensive, but possibly a great addition for the home gym. Have a great week!
Thanks for stopping in here my friend! Take care of Crystal---you are an awesome husband! ******** has really changed a bunch. I used to enjoy hopping on, helping people and the interaction, but social media has seemed to devolve into voyeuristic media.----people just view and gawk but don't interact. I wasn't getting much out of it except aggravated. Give my best to Crystal!Workout Log:
