Most people have hsv 1 or oral herpes or "cold sores". Std tests don't even test for it unless you ask doc to do it, herpes 2 is different though.

I like to look at stats to remind me why I don't sleep around.
Supposedly 80% of people who have HSV2 don't even know it.
10% of Caucasian men and 30% of Caucasian women have it. 20% of black men, and 50% of black women have it. I think it was 1 in 3 women over all have it.
That means if you sleep with 15 women, 5 will have it and only 1 will know she has it.
Almost everyone has HSV1 and though it's not as common as a cause of genital herpes, it can be.
The bad news is, since so many women have it, you're very likely to sleep with one that does. The good news is if they aren't having a break out the chances of catching it are lower, and even if you do, since 80% of the people that have it don't even know it, there's a good chance it won't be a problem.
Condoms lower the risk of catching it, but it's still transmitted by skin to skin contact
