Don't know if it's a decent price or not, but seemed like a cool pair of dumbbells to share here:

Interdasting, York set popped up in Illinois. Appears to be non-45 stamped plates, ship wheel collars, and a 50's bar as far as I can tell. Seems priced right about market value though, but open to offers....

You need a good rack, a bench, and a 300-lb Olympic weight set. Now, what was your question?

Interesting. Any other plates from this set? More pics of the back? Any other distinguishing features?

Bumping the thread. Calling for new members and for new designations. For instance, we should have a designator for members with a complete globe set. Not the under 15 lb globes or only NorthernMortis could claim that designation.

I'm not the most active guy on here, nor am I the most educated on York items in general. But I've got a few things recently:
-York Split sleeve bar
-Unmilled 1960's/70's 100's (the ones that were bored out to 2" at the factory)
-Unmilled 35's
Speaking of the 35's, this is what mine are:

Is this serious? He's got to be dreaming (or am i wrong?)

Sure man! You're going to have to excuse the poor quality pics- Just stepped out to the garage and snapped these:
Hundos:
I got these from an old man (75 years old). He got them from a local YMCA in High Point, North Carolina in 1972. He said they had been in that YMCA for 8-10 years at that point from what he remembered.
Not sure if I want to strip and repaint these satin black.
Split Sleeve Bar:
This one is in pretty rough shape and all of the knurling is pretty much smoothed out. I still like it, and it's straight as an arrow.
I haven't yet began any restoration on it
UnMilled 35's (1950-1960's?):
These look hideous right now because I've had them soaking in paint stripper. The previous owners had these things coated in probably 20 layers of different color paints (not exaggerating). I filled a plastic grocery bag with paint.
Next, they're getting a through cleaning, mineral spirits, etc.
Again- may leave these bare metal with an oil coating.
Apparently folks are asking astronomical prices for these on eBay, which is strange to me. I didn't really see any of this stuff as "valuable" like that
I'll post updates as I make progress on cleaning up those 35's

Hi Everyone,
This is my first post. I'm a long time viewer.
I just picked up what I believe to be a vintage milled York barbell set w/ what I'm hoping is a York split-sleeve barbell.
I have a couple of quick questions. The bar is rusty as all get out. I've been scrubbing with a scotch brite and CLR as I read in other posts, but not much is coming off. It's taking forever. (you can see in the photos I was able to get the middle of the bar clean since it had no knurling, but everywhere else is just a pain to get clean) Would a brass wire brush on a drill be ok to use?
My next question is if I can get help identifying my bar? It looked like a York split sleeve, but I can't find the York stamp on it anywhere and instead of a pin to punch on the donuts - it had a threaded hole for a screw (which is missing). Also, the donuts themselves are threaded on to the bar. Is this normal for a York, or is this another brand/model of bar? I did some research and came across an old post on CF forums where someone had what looks to be the exact same bar and concluded it was a York bar from the 60's... Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you in advance!
Matt

Matt, that bar looks familiar. I can't remember the details. Can you measure it for us? I believe older barbells have less room between the sleeves and aren't rackable.
Also, we need to see your plates! Including the backs.Clive, you're a good guy. - AttyGuy

Matt,
Personally I would take a wire wheel to that bar. Knock off all the rust then polish the non knurled areas with steel wool. Finally, cold blue the shaft and the oil it down.
I know there is a lot of info to get through in these threads. But you will see that not all York Split Sleeves have a York, PA/York Barbell Stamp. Prior to the roll pins holding on the donuts, York did indeed use the screw-on donut and a hex set screw. Not saying for sure it's a York you have there without seeing more detail. But I am saying don't rule it out because of lack of those features.
Check out the inside collar when the 2" sleeve is removed. Look for identifying marks. Such as numbers that may look like a date. i.e "04 79", "11 78", etc...Last edited by dieselmike; 11-16-2016 at 07:18 AM.
