Hey guys, in the market for a budget bench/squat bar that's a little larger diameter. Which would you guys go with between the beater bar and thepbclk2000? The rogue is significantly cheaper. Not pulling with this bar strictly bench and squat.
Thanks

Never used that particular cap bar but would go with that over the rogue beater bar. the beater bar has no center knurl and only olympic lifting marks and no powerlifting marks which would be a dealbreaker for bench/squat.
if you want big diameter the jesup bar feels really nice, it's a bit too thick for me though. think it's 31.75mm but some people love it. the knurl feels very good though like a real power bar.Last edited by Xone; 05-11-2015 at 05:46 AM.

Instead of the ob-86pbck2000 you might consider the ob-86pbck. It is not quite as strong as the 2000, but it should be fine for your purposes and will save you some money (~$50). Fwiw, I've had the ob-86pbck for around 8 years and have been very happy with it.
Here they are at Amazon:

I think a couple of you missed that he is looking for a thicker diameter bar....
you can get the jesup bar from jesupgym.com but I think the site is down
as for the York 32113 I'm not 100% sure if I've used it or not. I remember using a thicker chrome york bar briefly that I think was it which I really didn't like the feel of. it only has olympic knurl marks so I wouldn't want to use that for benching anyway.... you want a power bar.Last edited by Xone; 05-14-2015 at 03:08 PM.

I don't think that is correct (or at least there is some disagreement about it). Cap lists it as 30 mm in the catalog but according to several other things I've read it is actually 28.5 mm.
It is listed as 28.5 mm on the Adamant Barbell site:
http://www.adamantbarbell.com/Olympi...mparison-Guide
and this post provides that same info from a forum user who contacted Cap product support. He measured the bar and saw that it was actually 28.5 mm and then confirmed it with customer service. Apparently the catalog is incorrect.

huh, interesting. well I guess that rules that out then.
op the jesup bar seems like the best option then, it is 1.25" (31.75mm) so it is on the thicker end of thick so keep that in mind, but it does feel really good- they have one at the gym I go to when I don't lift at home.

150k tensile, only oly knurl marks...I'd pass.
For $25 more, you can get the zinc Rogue Ohio Power Bar...for the same price, you can get the bare steel Rogue Ohio Power Bar. 209k tensile, 29mm, powerlifting knurl marks, etc. I'm assuming you want PL knurl marks since you said it's for squat and bench.Garage Gym Owner

You haven't stated WHY you want a larger diameter bar.
With very few exceptions, any bar larger than 29 mm is made with inferior steel. The larger diameter (30mm, 32mm, etc) allows them to use the cheaper steel without the bar bending as easily.
Almost every powerlifting federation uses 28-29mm bars, and as a result, there are many quality choices in this diameter range. It is the standard size for a reason.
So, WHY do you think you need a larger diameter bar than what essentially every powerlifting competitor uses? Barring some fantastic explanation, just get one of the many highly recommended power bars listed above (the Rogue Ohio Power Bar is probably the best value on the market currently).
I'll be waiting for your explanation, OP.www.instagram.com/mastodonstrength/

You're right about inferior steel. Some people just like the feel of a slightly thicker bar in their hands for pressing and I can see where they're coming from. It sits in the palm better and can just feel stronger pressing that way- the best comparison I can think of is benching with a thicker bar kind of feels like benching with a false grip without actually using a false grip.
I can notice the difference from 28.5 to 29mm and 29mm feels good to me but I see why someone might want a 30-32mm.435/259/551 S/B/D @ 197

You may actually like a 29mm bar. It doesn't look like a big difference on paper but I feel a big difference from the 86b to a 29mm bar. The 86b is listed as 28.5 but feels kind of thin and noticeably thinner than a texas power bar which is also 28.5. I can feel a difference from either going to a 29mm but it's very noticeable compared to the 86b.
