    Food porn...ham hocks and pintos....

I'm probably the only one here who loves the combo.

Got two packs of (5) and thawing one as we speak for my personal cooking (overstatement for me) challenge for this week sometime.
The pack just says heat to 160 degrees.
Guess I'll throw in a large onion, celery and some garlic that was suggested from my online queries.
Also read a cup of reasonable red wine may give it some tasty flare.
Wouldn't you know it...I just happen to have a litre of Merlot in stock.
A log of sour dough french bread should work also.

Hmmm....I think I can smell them sonsabitches already.

Just thought I'd throw that out for any commentary.

    Carry on....

I love frijoles. I cook a big pot every Friday. I put in garlic, Serrano peppers and salt pork.
Mexican clay pots really bring out the taste.

I've never tried either of those but I will. Ham hocks are so cheap around here. We love a good split pea and ham soup and usually end up making it a few times during the year.

I don't have any clay pots and I've never used salt pork for this dish.
BUT...I have one helluva appetite, especially for this sort of combo.

Thanks for chiming in....on spread for contribution.

Yeah people tend to add too many ingredients too their beans. In the Mexican cowboy camps growing up, this is how those vaqueros did it. Add some pan de campo or homade corn/ flour tortillas on the side...Damn I'm hungry...

Yup -- My mother used to cook this exact meal all the time when I was a kid. Hamhocks, pinto beans, and corn bread with butter. Good stuff!

Get some corn bread and some pepper sauce for the pintos and that is one of my favorites.
