I'll post a rant on this because I used to have this little fantasy about going "in the woods" and hunting game and living off the land for as long as I could before I ran out of meat or the weather got too bad. Luckily like many things, I set out on my little journey by doing some research first, and it didn't take long to dispel my humble little Walden-esque dream with a steady dose of stark ****ing reality.
This pic is the kind of stuff I'm talking about.
Some rugged-looking man standing in a field with a freshly skinned and dressed slab of animal. Something he caught with his cunning and skill, stalked like the ancestors of old, right? You can just taste the blood on the meat, and it brings a sense of primordial satisfaction that 90% ground chuck in the store won't ever have no matter how rare you cook it.
But the problem is this little fantasy died a long time ago with the rule of law. We figured out this thing called firearms which let us hunt far more efficiently than ever before. Keep in mind the Compound Bow wasn't even invented until the 1960's - long after we had well refined rifles and pistols of all kinds. After massacring a few hundred thousand herds of Buffalo sometime in the 19th Century, we found out it was probably a good idea to put rules on Hunting so a small collection of idiots didn't completely extinct a species of game.
Fast forward to today. All land is owned - by someone. That ownership entails ownership of the game that is on it at any given time. You see, for Mr. Rogan to be standing there taking that picture, a lot of things had to happen. Foremost, Mr. Rogan had to have a license to Hunt. Secondly, given that it appears that's the shoulder of some large Elk or similar, it's possible Mr. Rogan had to pay for an additional tag or tax on this hunting license. Mr. Rogan had to be hunting the animal in the specific season it is legal to hunt the animal - some seasons are 1-2 days per year, and only a specified number of hunters are even allowed to purchase the opportunity to hunt particular animals or species.
Let's keep going with one of the biggest ones: Mr. Rogan had to have permission to hunt on the land he was on. Now here's where it gets interesting, because 95% of the time, people who own hundreds of acres tend to know if there is game on their land. If you go hunting on their land without their permission you are now the definition of a poacher. So to even set a single foot on their land or to even shoot an animal that is one kunthair over the property line of their land you're going to need their permission - which they may or may not give you the privilege of purchasing from them for a fee that could be anywhere from a few hundred to a few thousand dollars - or more, depending on if the land owner specifically terraforms / cultivates the area to be conducive to the game you want to hunt.
Now after paying out a few thousand in dosh to simply be on some land legally, Mr. Rogan has to obey all hunting laws which are going to vary from state to state. Can't shoot over bait, can't shoot over or within X distance of water, can't do this, can't do that. Assuming Mr. Rogan even sees an animal in the first place for the several thousand he's already spent, Mr. Rogan still has to MAKE the shot. Your $20 Tasco Scope from K-Mart is not going to cut it when it's barely daylight and roughly 20 degrees sitting 12 feet up in a stand. Mr. Rogan has to be wielding a rifle and scope worth a **** to stand a chance at taking an ethical (read: instantly or rapidly fatal) shot at an animal over 30 yards. Even then with the best equipment, if Mr. Rogan is not a practiced shot, he will likely miss even with an accurate weapon. I won't even go into the "challenge" of using a Compound, Crossbow, or if you want to be truly cruel, an old school Traditional Bow / Recurve.
So faced with all these hurdles, what is Mr. Rogan to do? After all, he wants to hunt, but right now, it just looks like a lot of ****ing money just to be able to rent a scrip on land to sit in a freezing stand that could be packed with dozens others like him who are going to execute the first ****ing thing that walks by that isn't Bambi (and probably that too).
Well then Mr. Rogan should fear no more, because for the low, low price of a few thousand more, he can simply have a "guide" escort him to a heated blind sitting in front of a feeder on a fenced-in private ranch where animals are literally grown and corn-fed to be vastly larger than their "wild" siblings.
Yes, this all-expense package includes airfare and your own private chef who will cook the very animal you so bravely laid low. They will even ship you the meat (cut to your choice of course) AND the "Trophy" after you fly back home to your CEO $10k / day life so you can mount your "accomplishment" on your wall just like a "MAN."

So to wrap up this little rant on the state of "modern" hunting, I will reiterate: People need to realize that all land is owned and that no one in their right ****ing mind is letting you set a single foot on it without extorting some kind of money out of you because game is considered a resource. On top of this, there is a litany of laws and regs in place for hunters to protect the species (humans included). To a certain extent, I guess I can sympathize with the person who is willing to drop $20k on an African Safari "hunt" to bring back some Exotic trophy because let's face it: even the average ****ing Whitetail "trophy" involves about as much "cunning" or "skill" as paying for the opportunity of being the individual in the right place at the right time with a sighted in firearm of the appropriate caliber.

- Modern hunting is an industry, not a pastime.

I've been face-palming non-stop while reading this entire thread.
It also goes to show that it doesn't matter what's right or wrong. It doesn't matter if someone knows what they're talking about. It doesn't matter if real life is right in your face. People REFUSE to ever change their opinion on something once they have it. It's unbelievable how stupid man-kind is when you think about it.

Ummmm... you do know they abuse and torture a lot of the animals before they kill them to make us delicious breakfast.
Earl's jimmies are rustled because jamal is balls deep in his 2/10 sloot wife so he goes to work at the slaughterhouse & literally kicks the siht out of a pig that has no idea why it's getting beaten only for it to be killed in a few weeks. Makes me want to commit genocide.

So explain it to me... I've seen the arguments on both sides, but in this case it's a giraffe. It's not a lion reeking havoc on a village, or Hyenas raiding food stores. It's a docile herbivore that doesn't bother anyone. I think hunting is great...without it we wouldn't be where we are now as a species...but a giraffe though?

Are u srs? ****ING HYPOCRITES!!!!! Those hunters who pay **** tons of $$$$ to hunt these majestic creatures do more for those beautiful animals than u or Juicey ever will! You know what will happen if big game hunters all of a sudden STOPPED HUNTING BIG GAME?
Those majestic creatures u supposedly love so much would go extinct.

Iam not completely against hunting in certain circumstances, lets face it the meat in supermarkets doesn't come out of thin air and often times those animals are kept in deplorable conditions, but obviously customers don't want to think about that... having said that,I find the act of posing like she did with the dead animal as really disgusting.
I bang trannies.

Don't understand the pleasure in a kill like this, but if it really is for the greater good so be it. If that one giraffe death saved 10 others from poachers I can't argue against it. Obviously I would rather it not happen at all but if its the difference between extinction and survival...well
just wants your fine mower crew
