I signed up for my first meet. It's in two weeks. I'm feeling good, and as strong as I ever have. The only problem is, I've been reading up on the meet and it looks like there are a lot of elite lifters going to be there. My numbers are pitiful in comparison (198 raw w/wraps 560/340/~550), and I am sort of not looking forward to this. I know people say not to worry about where you're at, but...but...
lol. I'm just stressing out. Don't even know why I made this thread. My lifts should be good enough for several state records, but those don't mean much of jack sh*t, I know. I am a very self-conscious person, so...
okay.
/end of ridiculous rant.

Lol don't worry about it dude. I just did my first meet and barely eeked out a 1k total in 198 and was surrouded by beasts doing 1300-1500 at the same body weight. I felt really self conscious until I got there, but everyone was really friendly and supportive.

All the above. Just go and have fun. Don't worry about it right now. Get the experience and learn how a meet runs, timing, what to pay attention to, and socialize.

I used to do SPF meets in Ohio. I would squat under 500 and a couple of guys from Westside would squat 1000 or more. I remember a few meets didn't even have a raw category so everyone lifted multiply regardless of what you actually wore.
I think powerlifting is different than most other sports in that you can truly compete against yourself. Just break some PRs!

I felt the same way after doing my recent second meet.
My first meet was a local comp with other guys who were 1st timers like me, and I ended up being the 2nd best lifter overall.
In my recent 2nd meet, which was a national comp (here in UK) I ended up 10th out of 16 in my weight class. My total was around 62kg below the winner.
But you know what, now I am more motivated than ever to improve. Much better to compete in high levels competitions, see the best in action, and be inspired.
No point looking down the ladder when you are climbing up!!!Meet PR: 230/ 135/ 262.5 [627.5] (in kgs)
506/ 297/ 578 [1,381] (in lbs)

those are very respectable numbers for your weight. don't be so self conscious, just go in and do your best.
its not like you can be a top 10 lifter by just walking into your first meet.Best Raw total 1850 at 181 lbs
best comp raw lifts @ 181
squat 710
bench 500

Good numbers. Would a powerlifting meet really be something you'd want to do if you could win at your first meet? Heck, if I could run in my first marathon and place 1st, or even top 10, I'd think--this sport is a joke!
Unfortunately, that can happen sometimes in PL with tiny meets. I have numbers that aren't a lot higher than yours, and I've won best lifter (both in tested and un-tested feds). It feels good, but what feels even better is going to a meet and seeing guys who are stronger than you, and being inspired to lift more. If I just want to be the strongest person around, I can go to my local gym. There, I'm a big fish in a small pond: no one can outlift me.
The reason we pay for powerlifting meets is so that we can go head to head against other, strong lifters! Enjoy it.637/390tng/615 - belt/wraps, best gym lifts.
600/370/600 - best competition lifts.
575/330/560 - best competition lifts at 181 raw.

My first strongman meet, I went in knowing I couldn't even press the log I had to do. I watched other guys throw it up and smoke it like they were Cheech and Chong. I was initially nervous about it, then just thought "Why do I care? I'm really only competing against myself." I did manage to clean it and made a few good attempts but it wasn't going anywhere. Took me until the next year to finally do reps with it.
You have good numbers and are going to do well. Just enjoy it.
