of course. Tore my pec completely in the muscle belly in 2007. most doctors told me it was not fixable. I found a surgeon who was willing to try. thankfully he was able to fix it, but I couldn't bench for over a year

was suppose to do a meet in March but had to have brain surgery in late January that set me back from lifting for 1.5 months. Getting my strength back up pretty quickly though! But I got so depressed just laying around for that time. It was the best feeling getting back into the gym.

-torn oblique
-peneal tendon sublaxation - shot in the ankle, took me out for awhile
-elbow tendinitis + bicep + tricep <- got so bad i was pinching a nerve, and couldnt squeeze my hand
-knee issues. severely ****ed up my VMO and abunch of surrounding things. Took me out for almost 2 years. I finally squatted 403 then 4 weeks later hit 502 last month, then got into a bar brawl ( security ) and tweaked it again, chiro is working on it now, still cant pull or squat, but its getting better. My vmo and petellar tendon just dont seem to want to recover. Its beyond frustrating. Got beyond excited when i hit over 500 again, but bam, tweaked again.
-Misc **** i tweak all the time, be it shoulders, or a random muscle
Injuries happen, you have to be mentally strong enough to overcome them and learn to work through them.

I have had a sharp intense pain in my left glute since July. Saw a doctor, sent me to physical therapy. Was told it was a pinched nerve in two of the discs. The PT people told me not to lift again (seemed rather harsh). I didn't listen. I stopped PT and have been doing mostly non-spine loading exercises (dips, pullups). I still bench and have been doing kettlebell swings for my lower body. I am now 90% better. Starting to dead and squat again and it feels great! I've missed doing them. Seeing a chiropractor next week to hopefully return to 100%!

I tore my ACL + meniscus two football season ago (like a year and a half ago now) and could not do any lower body lifts for 6 months. My squat had been just over 3 plates, but I had to start back over at around one plate. When squatting I was leaning heavily towards my good leg and really had to work on correcting my form before adding weight. And not to mention my bad leg's quad/hammy was very atrophied. But honestly, I was back to my old max within a few months. It's a ton easier to regain strength then gaining it in the first place in my experience. I still deal with patellar tendinitis, but it's just another thing to push through.
So I'd suggest getting your back looked at before something unfortunate happens. You might only need to take a month or so off from lifting. This sounds like a lot, but it's a lot better than pushing through something and ending up needing corrective surgery.S: 430 / B: 305 / D: 430

Just hit a new deadlift pr. Unfortunatly I think I tore my bicep tendons from jerking the bar off the floor like a powerclean. depressed af and am wondering how long this will take to recover. Rows are already the weakest lift for me. Now it's just gonna lag behind even more. faaaaaaaaaaaak

I screwed my back up a few years ago. Just took the summer off, stretched obsessively ever day, and came back and smashed all my old squat and DL prs.
Nothing wrong with a little rest every once in a while. Many top lifters over in Russia take time completely off (e.g. Malanichev) for a few months each year.637/390tng/615 - belt/wraps, best gym lifts.

This is actually one of the best pieces of advice I have heard in a long time. Until you get injured and are forced to take months off, you don't appreciate this. When I come back from all my injuries, I plan to incorporate this into my training. It's so much smarter to take time off BEFORE you get injured as preventative measures. Spend 3 months out of the year to just take a break, come back at a light weight, build back up and set PR's. The body just wasn't meant to be constantly destroyed week in and week out with little to no break. A single week deload just isn't sufficient to really cause cumulative damage to heal, because some things like joints/ligaments/cartilage/bones take a LOT longer than a week to heal (sometimes even muscle might take several weeks to heal fully).
Besides, there's an interesting thing that happens when you train for health. You get really strong as a bonus. A healthy body is a strong body. Lesson learned for sure on my part.Last edited by cirion0000; 04-07-2015 at 08:56 AM.

I've been training for only 2.5 years and recently injured my SI joint. It sucks. I took two weeks off, per my doc, and went back light. Tweaked it again. Went to the DO and got prescribed some physical therapy. That's been helping. I've been fighting the urge to try to go too heavy still. I got a TENS unit for my lower back pain and use it 10-20 minutes a day and it has helped a ton. This week I've finally been able to complete a workout pain-free. It's still light but that's alright. I am hoping that within another month or two I'll be back in action. I still plan to compete later this year but my progress has taken a huge set back. Not sure what to expect from myself now but I can't quit. Won't quit. I am not sure how long I'll be away from heavy lifting - maybe 3-4 months total - but that's better than giving up altogether.
Advice: see a doc who knows bones and lifting. Maybe get some PT to address imbalances or other issues. Keep a good chiro on speed dial and see him/her at least once a month. If your doc thinks a TENS unit will help, get one. It's a game changer for recovery for me.Fatty McFatty. Used to do triathlon, switched to powerlifting. Weakling. Started training Sept 2012.

I bruised a couple of ribs at rugby practice last week on. I took a few days off and then helped my inlaws move to their retirement home. Moving gun safes up and down stairs does not make bruised ribs feel better.
I went to deadlift on Monday and felt like I was going to die once I started getting near 500, so I scheduled an apt with the doc. Jokes on me because they aren't bruised. It's broken. LOL.Last edited by lhprop1; 04-08-2015 at 01:22 PM.
