The 2015 models are $2300. It seems like a lot. It is a lot. But if you try fishing saltwater (hell, even a larger lake) in a kayak you have to paddle in you'll want to kill yourself in an hour. Hands free fishing while being able to move is priceless.

You can find used ones for 1200-1800 depending on what it is, but I'd recommend buying new. If you fish a lot, the cost of fuel you'd use on just a little 21' center console fishing boat would be more than the cost of the yak in very short time, not including repairs, insurance, etc.

I still like surfcasting here and there, but the amount of fish you catch in these things is absurd.

thanks man! my old man could use something like this. my parents have a sweet pontoon but it's too much work to offload with just the two of them, and some of his fav lakes to fish on are hard to get into with their smaller boat. I'm sure that kayak could do some damage at certain times on Lake Superior as well.

jim, not sure how old your dad is but I'd recommend this. It's called the thule hullavator, it's a hydraulic system that drops down to the side so it's a lot easier to load the yak. You can lift it with the kayak up to the top of your vehicle with a single finger.
