But in pemdas when you get to multiply/divide you do it from left to right
http://www.mathsisfun.com/operation-order-pemdas.html
yes 30 ๗ 5 ื 3 = 6 ื 3 =
18
no 30 ๗ 5 ื 3 = 30 ๗ 15 =
2
(wrong)
P
Parentheses first
E
Exponents (ie Powers and Square Roots, etc.)
MD
Multiplication and Division (left-to-right)
AS
Addition and Subtraction (left-to-right)

Can't believe you morons still argue this stuff after years of people trolling with it
Both answers are right. It depends on how you'd right it in real life. These retarded internet math questions are intentionally worded like that to confuse as many morons as possible. In real life you'd never get a question like that.
BEDMAS/PEDMAS/BODMAS/order of operations/however the f*ck you learned it is not a hard and fast rule.

There is no standard convention as to weather you do multiplication or division first hence why these threads go 50 pages. If you insist on using an obelus then it should be written as (6๗2)(2+1) or 6๗(2(2+1)).

It's 9.
Mother of God reading that first page was frustrating, I couldn't tell if people were trolling or not.
(2+1) = 3
6/2= 3
Now calculate from left to right
3*3

lol do you even math bro look at what I wrote. I agree with what you are saying here but you don't even understand what i'm saying to you. You think that everything after the division sign is the denominator. such would be the case if the equation were 6๗(2(2+1)). the equation is written 6๗2(2+1) meaning that 6๗2(3)= 3*3=9. PEMDAS goes from left to right

some people (including me) assumed the question meant
6
------
2(2+1)
since i havent used a division sign in about 5 years, everything is done using / signs, which i took to mean the same thing but after looking i find that they dont, if the question had of been 6/2(2+1) then it would be ambiguous since the / could mean "to divide by" or it could mean a fraction bar. the answer is 9 but the notation in the question chitty middle school bs that isnt used in higher level maths because of the exact reasons highlighted in this thread.

the meaning of the obelus has become less of what you are saying and more of what / represents. For proof just look at your calculator. 99% calculators use the obelus to repesent division as in the "/"
we are arguing semantics now which is why there is so much confusion when these problems come up. I stand by 9 thoughಠ_ಠ
