wtf else are you going to do for 40-50 hours a week (srs)? I wish we get more vacation in the US because it's hard to find time to travel, but honestly, are you really going to be productive during those 40 hours you wouldn't be working?

3 hours of free time and OP is whining. My routine is:
Wake up 530 have breakfast etc etc
between 6 and 615am in the gym (Gym very close to home)
8am heading to work (2 hours getting to work)
10am start work can only leave at 7pm, whether I wanna take my 1 hour lunch break or not is up to me but I can't leave before 7.
7pm head back home (another 2 hours going back home)
It's already 9pm and I gotta be up by 530. On the verge of committing suicide.December 2013 stats / March 2013 stats
Bodyweight: 174lb (79kg) / 274lb (124kg)
Bench: 308lb (140kg) / 176lb (80kg)

some people want to be good/successful at things which might not be their career
some people want to make enough to do the things theyre interested not just make as much $$$ possible
people like you expect everyone to be proud about spending the majority of their life in an office doing unimportant work which is very depressing especially since they seem to be the majority
of course this doesnt include people who are genuinely passionate about their jobs
edit:lmao you can already see in this thread all the ****s who tell op to harden up cause they do 50-60 hrs a week and only have 2hrs free time a day like its something to be proud of

if you can create value or a service for people you can make money while you do whatever you wanna do all day, and you wake up when you want brah. It's all about financial freedom, and constant income. you don't wanna trade hours for money, you wanna trade value for money. you can't get those hours of your life back brah.

9-5 crew. Enjoy it crew.
Make the most of the opportunity you're given. The time and hours you work are irrelevant if you at least somewhat enjoy/have a passion for your job. Decent pay is just a bonus.
I hope those ITT who aren't happy with their lifestyle find what they're looking for. There's no lack of potential or opportunity out there.
We're all gonna make it.

I had the same mindset when I first started (I do 8-4 though, hours are flexible, just need to do 40 whenever) internship but after a month I got used to it and realized it's pretty chill. I work for half the time, talk with my coworkers, and Misc/surf/read when I feel like it. If I land the job, it's even better, can work from home in my pajamas, making a good salary, working for a while, watching TV, playing video games or w/e.
Sure I'd love my own business where I make even more money, but it ain't all that bad.

Lol no. If you hate your job you would probably quit it. Or work harder so you can get into a position to quit it. In any case, your job should be used as a ladder to get to a better position. If you just stay working in a job you hate, that's another form of failure IMO.
Am I the only guy here who actually LIKES my job?Misc Med Crew

Right? I don't know why people work at something they hate, it only makes it worse.
Right now I only really work 6 hours a day tops, most days are less. Of course, I am also a flight instructor so I make my own hours and don't have many students because I'm living the Navy life soon.
And just lol at willingly not getting 8 hours of sleep a night at least if you can help it. Sleep is life.

You haven't done **** yet. Speak up again once you're living it. Also posting to remind myself to neg the 23 y.o entrepreneur with it all figured out passing judgement on others.
Did the college to 8-5 route. Its not bad, ups & downs. Tbh personally I hate corporate 'culture' I've experienced thus far more than the hours/commute combined. I was simply not designed to appreciate **** like "wacky sweater Fridays".
I'm looking to make a change myself. One thing I'm finally realizing that I'd always taken as common knowledge without fully understanding is that nothing just falls into your lap, you need to consciously put fourth effort to change your situation if you're unhappy. Don't and you'll blink once and 10 years will have flown by leaving you right where you are now.Last edited by Bettabez; 03-04-2015 at 09:16 PM.

I used to have an hour commute to work and over an hour on the way home. I wanted to kill everyone almost every time driving to work and back. My job now is 12 minute drive from my house and the gym is about a 4 minute drive from my house. So much better, having a short drive to work has made a huge difference for me in my happiness.
Good things take time.
