yea, lets look at exceptions in order to get an accurate picture of the average. derp

The truth is college degrees will earn you on average 830,000 dollars more than if you didn't go to college, lifetime. College costs almost never more than 160k.

    Do the math

830k - 160k = >600k. So yea going to college is a very good decision

how about a list of failures who did go. it'd be vast.

the fact is, you don't NEED to go to college. yes it may be helpful, for some careers necessary, but no it is not a remote necessity to super success.

this is a tired truth that many people have known for centuries.

For every one you've read about there are ten thousand working at minimum wage.

Get 10 law school and 10 med school grads from a range of schools/grades. Get 1,000 random high school grads/GEDs. You'd be lucky if 5 were as well off or better than the 20 educated people.

Anyone who made their millions or billions pre-1980 are disqualified from the list.

It was a different time and college wasn't a requirement in most circles.

Bill Gates and Mark Zuck went to Harvard. Elon Musk went to UPenn. Guys behind Google went to Stanford. Even if some of the above didn't finish college, there will be some guys that are so talented and smart that success would've found them regardless of degree. I've also cherrypicked tech giants. But just saying your average Miscer won't be as cunning, and a college degree will lead to a better outcome in the *usual* case over their lifetime compared to otherwise. Granted they don't fuk up their future with an art major with six figured loans.

Disagree. College is way overrated and unfortunately over saturated. If you have a degree in Nuclear Engineering that is one thing. But a degree in psychology, liberal arts, etc... means little to nothing.

However, it's absurd to point to a handful of various successful people over the past 200 years to say that formal education being beneficial is a myth/brainwashing.
A handful? I can't point to millions upon millions of people that are successful without degrees. The list i shared are people that are worth hundreds of millions. I know countless business owners and non that make the same or more than their college counterparts. The myth i speak of is the one in which society says, "EVERYONE needs formal/higher education".

i don't care who you are, from 2010+ college degrees will be equivalent to high school diplomas.

the new billionaires are going to be college graduates; OR have extensive connections/high wealth family (da Zuckerberg, Gates, etc.)

people act like a college degree is a problem, lulz.
if you can't get one and stay out of less than 20k of debt, you're an idiot.

thats coming from a brah who's going into sales, the least college degree required field ever.
except now (recent years and years to come) even sales requires degrees.

For the people who know what they want, go and get it. You probably don't need a degree if you are passionate about it and have confidence. You may fail a few times, but you'll get there.

For those who aren't sure what they want to do, start/finish college until you figure it out.

There's no right/wrong way to live your life, unless you aren't pursuing something that makes your life happy. Fk everything else.
