    4-6 Hours Sleep ???

    Hello,

I only get 4-6 hours sleep daily, I go to gym and run 3 miles 6 days a week. I run a fulltime small business, and late at night/early mornings I study internet marketing. Will I still makes gains/lose weight as long as my diets right or will the lack of sleep hinder my progress. There is not enough time for me, I'm turning 47 this year and I'm still trying to chase and slay dragons.

Sleep is so important. You can get by with 6, but never 4. I get for 7-8 with a toddler.

Try cutting something out if you can to get an extra hour and make it 7. The lack of sleep is aging you most likely.

I've gotten 4-6 hrs of sleep all my life...but I'm hardwired that way. For me it has worked.

Testosterone is produced during sleep. Not getting enough sleep on even one day causes it to drop up to 25%. You will get gains with lower T, just not as much.
    Its not enough!

Sleep is a highly personal thing. Some can do fine on 4 hours, personally I need 7 to 8 to be at my best.

If you feel fairly fresh when you wake up and are not overly irritable or fatigued during the day you are probably fine.

My sleep patterns vary from week to week month to month. 4-5-6-10 hours. I really haven't noticed any difference in my weight workouts. I believe it is something that your body adjusts too.

Been averaging 4-5 hours of sleep per night since starting my current program nearly 6 months ago.

Dropped 77 pounds and 10" off my waist.

I'm stronger and feel 20 years younger.

    Sleep is over rated.

On days I train (Monday, Wednesday and Friday) I get about 4 hours of sleep. Usually in bed by 10 and up about 2:30.

On week days I don't train I get about 2 more hours, I don't get up till 4:30.

Weekends I am still usually in bed by 10ish and up before 8 without an alarm.

I have been training about 9 months now, but even before that for the last 14 years I am up at 4:30 for work 5 days a week.

What's absurd? Just because you need more sleep, it doesn't mean that everybody does. I lift 4 days a week and then swim 2 miles 2-3 days a week on 4-5 hour sleep. On top of that I work 80 hours a week.

    I'm not breaking.

Sufficient sleep is perhaps one of the most underrated aspects of weight loss and a healthy lifestyle. I have no idea how you survive on a 4 hours a night. That's about HALF of what you should be getting.

I’ve read recently that everyone should try to receive 6 to 8 hours of sleep, every day. But, some people can still thrive on less. I’m not one such person. Lol
If your body isn’t resting enough, you’ll eventually feel it – and I think one is more prone to injury without proper rest/recovery/sleep.

Your schedule sounds hectic, hope you can find a good balance, OP.

I get between 5.5 to 7 hours on average and it seems to work fine for me. Ideally, I'd like to sleep more and this is something I'm going to make a priority going forward. That said, if your diet is on point and you're able to work out with intensity, I think you can make gains just fine sleeping 4-5 hours. You'll probably just be tired as hell when mid-afternoon rolls around. That's what usually happens to me when I don't sleep enough.

This is highly individual -- Some people naturally sleep 4 hours a night (like DuracellBunny) and it works perfectly fine for them. That is all they need. Like most physiological traits, it is likely a normal distribution with mean being somewhere in the vicinity of 7-8 hours. Personally, I need 7-8 hours to feel at my best.

I think it partly comes down to quality of sleep as well. Many people are in bed for 8 hours, but it takes them a while to get to sleep, they wake up several times during the night and have to get back to sleep each time etc (which is what happened to me when I went through a stage of trying to get 8 hours; it just didn't suit me), with the overall quality of that sleep being poor.

With me getting 4-5 hours, I am typically asleep within 5 minutes of going to bed and I am then OUT until I wake up 2 minutes before the alarm is set to go off. I have never done a sleep study, but I think my quality of sleep is higher, hence why I don't need as much quantity of sleep.

working 3rd shif t, I frequently get only 5-6 hours of sleep. I try to get at least 7 on my days off. if you gradually work into less sleep, you'd be amazed at what the body can adapt to. With that said, you MUST maintain good nutrition and listen to your body when it gives you signs of injury or excessive fatigue .

I agree! I'd much rather have 5 hours of solid hard sleep than 8 hours of broken

all day long....a few years agi I had a sleep study done. The morning after the Tech asked how I slept and I said great! He basicaly said, no you didnt, you have sever sleep apnea. Went on the CPAP and now I understand what quality sleep is..5-6 hours of lights outs, even my wife tells me I sleep better.

sleep for me, is a hard fought and not often won, commodity. Like others, I have a small child at home (19 months), a 10 week old Newfoundland and I manage a business - if worrying about work doesn't keep me up at night, my extra homework often does.

Sleep, shoot for a full 8 hours if possible, but if not, sleep whenever you can. When I was way younger, I worked as an EMT and would volunteer for 24 and 48 hour shifts. Policy was that we did take naps so as to avoid mistakes and accidents, so I'd catch power naps in the rig (although not on the stretcher, gross).

I have a couch in my office, which to most in the US is an unheard of luxury, but when the weather is better, I drive to a truck stop, turn the music on and recline the seat for an hour. Rest is rest, your body demands it.

I'm exaggerating. I get usually get unbroken sleep.

    Between 10pm and about 1am, and then again between about 1.30am - 3am, and then from 3.30am - 5am.

    Sleep in? Lol.

I get by pretty well on 2/3 hours per night most nights. Once per week I may sleep 8/9 hours when I am off work, but the other days I never get more than 4 hours. I am sure I would make better gains with more sleep, but like stated above life is too short to sleep that much, I may miss something important

I sleep 5 hours a day. I don't need more. I have made gains. Would they be better with 8 hrs? No clue. But, it's what i do. I am at my desk at 6:30 AM usually. So, like others have said, you make it work.

LMAO!!! I know the feeling! my daughter just turned 3 in november. she didn't sleep through the night until she was about 16 months old. and by "sleep through the night" I mean about 5 hrs. the first time she did, I jumped out of bed and ran in to see if she was still breathing. I think it had a lot to do with breast feeding with NO bottle. every two hours for the first year......

anyways, she finally started actually sleeping through the night just after 2 yrs old. sometimes she still wakes up a few nights in a row, but then she occasionally sleeps for 13 hours hahahaha.....

    props to new(er) daddy status!
