Trutein S'mores Samples Review

First off, thank you to Lionology for choosing me to receive some samples of Trutein's latest flavor, s'mores! I've loved eery flavor of Trutein I've tried and this is no different.

Allow me to say, I got three samples and they were good!

First Impressions: When I opened my first sample, it was like opening swiss miss hot chocolate. I could smell the chocolate. I could see small marshmallows. I'm wishing I had taken a picture. Also, no chemical or artificial smell at all.

Nutrition Profile: 1 serving gives you 115 calories and 24 grams of protein. Fat is low, 1 gram per serving. Cholesterol is also low, 20 mg. Sodium is 220 mg. Carbs are low, total carbs is 4. Dietary fiber is 2.5 g and sugars is 1 g. Also you get 24% daily value of calcium, 8% iron and 1% of both Vitamin A and C.

Ingredients: No proprietary blends here. Trutein uses a protein blend, 40% whey, 40% casein, 20% egg white blend. Then comes TruFiber, natural and artificial flavors, xanthin gum, cellulose gum, guar gum, Protease Enzymes, artificial sweeteners (acesulfame potassium and sucralose and last soy lecithin.

Ingredients notes: Trutein whey comes from grass fed dairy sources. Also, because of the protein blend, some is digested fast and some slower.

Controversial Ingredients: The artificial sweeteners are the only thing I can think some people may not like. They don't bother me but I know some people don't tolerate them well or may not like the taste.

Mixing ability: 10/10, 10/10, 8/10 I used the samples three different ways. I blended it in a shake with a banana and some strawberries. I made pancakes with one. The last I tossed in a shaker bottle and 1 cup of unsweetened coconut milk. The first too blended beautifully. The last took a little effort. It wasn't super difficult but it took some more shaking that I usually need. That being said, casein protein can be harder to mix. It did eventually mix through shaking.

Consistency: 10/10 Anyway you mix it, you get a nice, slightly thick shake. It goes down smooth. All Trutein I've tried mix slightly thick, but never gummy. You won't gag on the texture, like I said it's smooth.

Taste: 9/10 You can taste the marshmallows (and see them!) and the chocolate flavor is mild but sweet. Not super sweet but like hot chocolate. The only thing lacking is the graham cracker. I didn't pick up on the graham cracker that much. It was still delicious though.

Overall: 9/10 Trutein has never disappointed me flavor, texture or ingredient wise. Other than the missing graham cracker this flavor was another success. I would purchase this in the future when I start running low on protein powder. Another Trutein success.

My s'mores shake in the bottle. You can see a little clumping on the side, but not much. I bet this would taste great in hot water! (Actually, user gbullock32 recommended this and he knows all about Trutein!)

Good review. How were the marshmallows? I had ProJym S'mores and the marshmallows were nice and soft. On Cellucor's S'mores and the marshmallows are hard and crunchy

Thank you for the comment. To answer your question, I found the marshmallows soft in my pancakes. Now, the shake they were crunchy but I didn't let it sit. I mixed and drank it right away. My shake sits overnight and from what I remember the marshmallows were soft after soaking. I think if you let them sit for 10 minutes, they would soften up. Now I wish I had let my coconut milk and s'mores sit in the blender bottle a bit to make sure!

Same texture as the marshmallows you get in hot chocolate- mostly crunchy unless you let them sit.
