    biceps curls

I tried to do curls as finishers for my biceps. First 5 reps were no problem but after that I just couldn't control my left arm. I just couldn't curl the weight, i was doing hammers against my will while my right arm had no problem.

Back/bicep day: some people do bicep curls after back training because the biceps aid in back work and are all warmed up.

Arm day: some people do biceps with triceps to get that big arm pump. Also the biceps are fresh and not tired after back so you can do more weight.

Both of the above are fine ways to train.
But I would NOT do hammer curls first. I would do them to finish with light weight. Only do hammers first if you have skinny forearms and are trying to thicken them up.
Remember to there are so many kinds of curls...ez bar, wide barbell, narrow barbell, spider curls, crucifix curls.
Also chin ups target the bicep.

op you could try and go lighter weight and increase the reps for the finishing exercise for the biceps.

Your strength is uneven, don't worry about it, most people are, especially beginners. Keep lifting and you will balance out.

This was also going to be my recommendation, I would also recommend not training one side different then the other side.

Exactly. Start with light, prime up your muscles for the destruction to come. Warm up, let your body know there's a beating coming. Work your way up with 2 to 3 warm up sets for biceps (generally). And for the working sets, perform your heaviest for 8 to 10 reps.

You can take 60 second breaks to recover for the next working set. For the finisher, you can work with something that's half your working weight for as many reps as possible. You can always take 5 seconds between reps to slightly rest. That'll turn it into a rest pause exercise.
