Not insulted at all, actually thats about what i really thought i was. turns out... was way wrong.
ish just got real people!
Totals were
BF% 31
Fat # 36.7
Lean # 75.1
Good news:
Bone Density Very High- I am 2 standard deviations above what is normal for my age... so yeah... very dense bone structure.
muscle mass on each side is pretty durn equal... so good symmetry there
fat distribution is also pretty symmetrical on left vs right
Only 2.4 pounds of fat over my abs while 8.2 on my BHT region (booty hips thighs) no surprise there really.
3.5 pounds fat on arms (total so 1.75 each)
Interesting thing, i have 10 more lean pounds in my trunk than in my legs... even accounting for the 2 pounds of implants.
This is really interesting because i dont feel visually that I look like what most sites put 30% at.
Crunched some numbers... so dropping 10 pounds of fat would theoretically put me at 24.7 and 20 pounds of fat would put me at 16.9 which would be about 96 - 97 weight range so it has been very eye opening.
Also means i was way fatter than i thought at 105www.bikinisandbiceps.com

Nope not at all.
Got it done at the Research Center for the University of San Diego, first scan is $100, every scan after that is $75. So not that expensive and the place is pretty much less than 10 miles from my home.
It was really interesting, while it wont change much timeline wise for me, it puts into perspective many things.www.bikinisandbiceps.com

I had a DEXA done last October in Seattle. It was $190 for two tests. I clocked in at 27% at 130lbs, so yeah - it was disheartening a bit. However, it changed what my goal % was. I no longer feel the need to get down to 16-18%. I'm no competitor, and if I manage to drop 10 or so lbs of fat, I'll be a nice 20%.

This is honestly why I wish more people would get these done. Sometimes I don't think, until you see your PERSONAL numbers, that people have an idea what a certain bodyfat % will look like on them and what it will take to get them to their goal look. It's usually quite eye-opening. Kudos to you ladies who have gotten this done!

I could have paid $160 for 2 tests today, but honestly didnt know at what point i would go back. I can extrapolate the numbers pretty well from what i have.
It is a bit disheartening, since i was thinking i was at least in the 20's and had a bit more muscle, but at least i dont have to diet down to see that i dont have as much as i thought, and i have a much clearer view of things. Pretty sure Figure is out of my leauge, at least being competitive is. I may get away with bikini since there are several pro;s that compete at 93lbs and around my height.
My main objective has always been porportion, symmetry, and looks... and i think i have achieved that pretty well.
Of course i will still try to build!
I think you are right, and i can clearly see how i can be much happier at a higher body fat than what i originally thought. I am glad i did it, even if the results were not what i was thinking.
Glad it helped.
I think its important for people to understand that changing the body takes so much time and work. Its not a 12 week or a year or even a 5 year process. The % of body fat is just a number, it gives me some perspective, but it does not define me or my worth. It does not change my knowledge or define me as a trainer or instructor.....no one will walk into my next class and walk out because i am 31% body fat. As long as i have good music and can make em work, they will keep coming.
Its just a number. Still can be the best me i can be!www.bikinisandbiceps.com

It definitely is an eye opener, but I would say that having more BF than you expected probably means you have a visually pleasing fat distribution . I was the opposite with my first DEXA - swore I was probably around 20-22, turned out to be 14%. But my fat distribution had me at 6% upper body and 23% lower, lol. So walking around with delt striations and at least a hint of cellulite (could even find some at 13% this past summer, I just suck it up and ignore at 20+, lol) is the norm for me, which sucks but hey I guess has its pluses and minuses.
That, and having a solid base can make "higher" BF% lay much more pleasingly - means you've been doing good work!Gym PRs:

Good for you girl! Great outlook!
All this talk makes me want to spend the $50 bucks to do the bodpod here in town.. or check on the price of a DEXA. I'd like to have a better idea, its just the thought of spending that much money for numbers that don't really MEAN much._____

wow - makes you think those online photos of different bodyfat % are pretty skewed!
I would never have put you that high.
Its really interesting data - I was looking at bodpod but its quite expensive and there aren't that many about - plus everyone says how innacurate it is. I don't think you can get DEXA done for bodyfat here in the uk, only certain hospitals have the scanners so its for medical purposes only (plus it would be extortionately priced!)

Both Oregon and RockAngel look like they have lower body fat than they actually do, while others who are thinner have posted pics with their bodyfat % and they actually have LOWER fat than they appear. Its weird, but goes to show how helpful that solid base of muscle is. You can carry more fluff and actually look BETTER than the skinny/fat, lower bodyfat types. Nice, because you can keep the curves.
Looking good RAUnder Construction.

I just remembered about the BF% sticky - I never put my DEXA stuff in there - those of us with scans/relaxed pics should compile them there! I have my 2012 stuff I can put up, but from this summer I only have some random vanity pics around that time, no good relaxed ones from the actual day.

Thank you for posting your results and picture. I've always been a bit skeptical about the body fat pictures that are posted online. I'm not sure how anybody decided that they are the % that they say they are. Did somebody just google "30% body fat" and copy and paste a photo from Google image? Who knows. And then, as has already been pointed out, how we carry our weight/fat makes a big difference as far as being able to make a visual estimate. I think it would be interesting to see what a BIA scale and maybe a few of the various body fat math formulas would put you at, percentage-wise, just for the sake of comparison.

I really wish I could find somewhere around here that will do a DEXA for BF% and not just for bone density. Maybe I'll have to start calling around again when i get back from vacation (Ugh. What a horrible time to get a DEXA done!). The last time I tried no one did them though
And I agree. You look no where what I imagined 30% to look like.Me vs. Me: Lifting with UCTD: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=170084343

Lots of quotes in this one!
Its interesting because it says i have 33% fat in the upper while 43% in the lower... so i feel my numbers are still high.. but visually i feel that i look more proportionate than that.
I have been watching the cellulite slowly disappear. I think part if mine is genetic as my mom has some knarly cellulite as well, so i may never be rid of it but I feel like by adding muscle and working on body comp at least i can keep it in check to the point where i am not self consious about it.
And i feel like I have built a decent muscle base for me. my original goal was 100 pounds lean mass, but i think thats not realistic. i think i would be lucky to hit 90 pounds lean mass at this point. Over all im happy with my look and this is an easily maintainable weight.
I have thought the same, why spend the money. but this is the year that I am working on doing a lot of things, my hubby wants to try to go overseas again and i may never have the chance to do this again. So what they hey!
Absolutely the photos are so different! I went in thinking 24 - 28% so above 30 was a little shocking to me.
I think that is what it is all about and what my goal has been, proportion. I always felt that i was pear shape (and am) but didnt want to look unproportionate. even when i went in to get my bewbs, i told the doc to make them fit me. and i think he did, so pleased!
Current measurments are 35-25-36... so i think when i drop down to comp level... im gonna be so crazy small even for me!
Thank you!
And the technician said that the more muscle you build the denser your bones become (specifically she said muscle torque builds bone density). given the level of bone density i have, i feel like this is a pretty great muscle base for me.
This was the reason i took pics, i wanted to be able to compare later on. I will put the info in the bf% sticky as well. I wish we had a place where we could just stick the pics with the scans. i looked online and could find more for males but so few for females.
It would be interesting to see your results as well. I dont recall if you were building or cutting but i think it would be great to show over time how it all looked.
Thank you! and i had to call around to a few places, since some medical facilities would not do it without doc orders/insurance (my insurance wont even pay for the bone density). Even the SDSU center only does them on certain days and they use your scans for research, which i think is cool, but others may not.
Yep.. mine was at the research center for the local university. best price too.www.bikinisandbiceps.com

So fascinating rockangel! Thank you so much for sharing. This has given me a very different perspective on my own body fat levels. I'm now convinced that I'm in the lower-to-mid 30's now that I've seen your pics (as opposed to the upper 20's… which would have been my original assumption). I put up some current pics in the OV35 thread if you are curious. I wish I had a local place that did DEXA scans too…

As I looked at your photos I was thinking you look like you have the same bf as myself so it was then interesting to see your stat- wow I thought I was around 25 but clearly I'm not either! I'm not upset but it does make me think I should drop some fat, something I didn't really want to do as I value boobs over abs. Thanks for the post.

I saw your pics and think you look amazing! Im willing to bet you have loads more muscle than me too, so its hard to say where you would be at.
I would say if you are happy with how you look, dont go into losing fat just for the sake of numbers.
Im going to switch to fat loss, but its because we are working on better composition and i no longer have to worry about losing boobs!www.bikinisandbiceps.com

I got a weird request rockangel. Can you use one of those online military body fat calculator and tell us your results? Just curious how far off it is from your real results. I have been using those even though I know they are not accurate. Your scan is shocking to me - I look no where as good as you and calculators give me 25%.

I would not have guessed >30% either. You look good...much better than the pictures online they use as examples for 30%. Shows what a muscle base can do, I guess. Are you flexed or relaxed in those pictures?

Thanks so much girl!
Speaking of the difference a muscle base makes… came across this tonight when I was looking at past pics. These were both taken while my body fat was at it's highest but 4 years apart. I actually weigh almost 8lbs more in the recent pictures! Muscle makes a significant difference… but the progress is slow.
