Any protein is protein.
I assumed that by ''most effective'' you mean high protein-low carbs/fat content so that you don't fill up your calorie intake too fast?
Other than whey protein, (lean) meat/fish, cottage cheese. That's all I could think of[Watdo?] - Want (''should'' for you naggers) bulk.

If not, protein is protein.

They're supplements in which you supplement your diet. If you can get your daily protein from other sources, they're not necessary. If you're not in too deep a deficit and getting your protein then lean body mass expenditure will be minimal.
Head on over to the supplement section if you want reviews on protein supplementation.

I think casein is a better choice, its slower release and more filling but pricey, stirred into cooked oats ON casein is amazing
I use myofusion(a blend)I've never liked straight whey, apart from post workout supposedly ive never seen the point of it,even then a blend is fine
I'll tell you this though the times I have no powder at all it makes no difference to progress I just dont like meat all the time thats why I use it.I actually enjoy shakesYou don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.

The best protein comes from varied sources of whole foods. They are more filling, offer far more on a micro nutritional level and taste better. That said, if you need to use a powder it not likely to matter what source you choose, if your eating the 1g/lb of lbm we all recommend the source is irrelevant.

Poor OP got no real answers to his question (resurrecting this bc I have the same question, rather than make a new thread).
I like Dymatize (sp?) iso 100. Guy at the store told me it had the lowest carbs, sugar, calories, etc. I'm using musclepharm combat powder right now. I'm not sure if there's anything out there that's better. Anyone know?

If your diet consists of low carb, then Optimum Whey would be my choice as it has 3g of carbs, 24g of protein and 120 cals per serving.
Its purely personal preference... If you need something to kill the cravings... Cellucor performance whey is delicious and comes in tasty flavors. and it only has 3g of carbs in it.
I use ISOpure right now... It may not taste like cellucor performace whey, but it has 160 cals, 0g of carbs, and 40g of protein with over 10,000mg of bcaas.Contrary to popular belief, I dont actually bench 900lbs, as stated in my username.
Supplement Stack:
-Orange Triad
-CreaCore
-MusclePharm Fish Oil
-Caffeine Tablets
Nutritional ketosis requires explicit reduction of CHO intake to generally lower than 50 g/d and, for some, <30 g/d. Protein must also be restricted, often to <1.8 g/d per kg body mass and sometimes to < 1.2 g/d per kg, with remaining calories composed from fat.

Best proteins
Grilled chicken breasts are good, under 200 calories and 30+ grams of protein in one. I also like Chobani nonfat plain greek yogurt. 22G Protein and 11G Carbs and 0G Fat. Protein Powder is key also, and having a few servings per day is crucial.
I consume about 2600 calories per day and have no problem getting the 200+ grams per day
