No I agree, the video is not a hate crime. However if the teacher had decided to defend himself, it would then turn into a hate crime. Teacher made the right move. He would've lost his job, school would be sued, and he'd be in jail labeled as a racist.

I had a friend in high school who had a teacher push him in the chest and rip off his necklace. My friend laid him out and got kicked out of school.
