I am at squat boxes and I have some interest in Elite Fitnesses 12"x14"x16" foam squat box. My original intentions were to buy an adjustable box and a foam top until I saw this. My concerns is how long a solid foam box will last. If anyone has one of these yet, I was wondering how you like it.

Pics when you get one.
You need a good rack, a bench, and a 300-lb Olympic weight set. Now, what was your question?

LOL @ Atty jumping the gun. I've never seen one outside of the pic on EFS, so it would be nice to see in someone's home.
From what I've read about box squat training, you're dealing with two totally different tools.
A typical will allow you to stop completely at the desired height. The foam top or this roam rectangular box will force you to know when to stop & you cannot relax at the bottom, unlike a normal box.
I would not want to be stuck w/ 12"/14"/16", but that's just me. If you were looking at an adjustable box
I'm assuming you're looking into buying one & don't have one, right?
My school of thought on this, if you can, is to build a box.
1. Buy & cut 2x4s & some plywood sheets to the lowest height you'd ever need. The surface area should really be no larger than 24x24. I prefer 18x18. (Home Depot or Lowes could cut everything for you, so you only have to screw everything together.)
2. Buy something like a stall mat & cut it to fit the top of the box.
3. Next, buy something like Link. That 6" thick piece of high density foam should do the job.
4. You can wrap the foam in a type of vinyl fabric like Link.
(Atty, I know you'll like the color choice. )
5. Staple the corners & done.
Obviously, you can buy an adjustable box & just do steps 4 & 5.
I think if you are doing a touch & go style of squat, no biggie. If you are at all sinking into the foam, any pad will wear out eventually.Crews: Ivanko Barbell Crew #52, York Barbell Club #95, Equipment Crew #59

I had my eye on the EFS foam box but never pulled the trigger. another option is something like the Rogue 12" plyo box. Youll probably want to reinforce the center with a 2x4 or 2x6 and close up the bottom (they are sold with 5 faces, not 6), but in the end youll have a cheaper and lighter option than adjustable. Height adjustable with rubber mats.

It looks great but too much $ for me (i'd rather spend $ on stuff i cant make or specialty bars) when there are alot of alternatives. I made a 20x24x30 plyo box over a year ago and its holding up strong. For box squats I made a 14x16x18 box and it works perfect for my wife and myself (and my kid when he is sitting on it watching one of us) .
My suggestions by the cheapest price would be to check out walmart they have plyo adjustable box by golds gym that i think is 12x14x16 http://www.walmart.com/ip/21811895?w...593592&veh=sem and you could always add a cushion like Synthetickiller said but i'm not to sure how sturdy it'd be.
or ebay has one for $50 but the pad looks small so i'd suggest marking everything (foot/box placement prior)
but i made mine for less than $30 and if i wanted cushion in future i might get it and wrap it or get one of these cheap marcy bench and cut it up to put it on.
Or one thing i've been eye balling for this last week is one of those blue gymnastic/home grappling matts you could make a box cut the mat up and secure it to the box and wrap it so it looks fancy. I got one of my 4x8or10ft mats for $15
The wood is def the cheapest way to go and you can make it for whatever height width and length that is best for you and who's going to use it.Heavy bags DonT HIT back, it takes more than a gym membership to compete in the RING or Cage!
