    Question I need Calories, and lots of 'em.

    I came here instead of going to nutrition because teens might understand me better. I have an insanely high metabolism, but not the greatest appetite. Unfortunately, as much as it seems that I eat, I still can't manage to gain weight. This is how my usual diet goes on a Mon-Fri basis, since I have school. Remember, I don't have the time for measuring out serving sizes -- this is all by eye.

    In the morning, I have a bowl of cereal, usually two servings of shredded wheat with 2% fat Horizon milk, maybe some fruits. Estimated about 300. I'm thinking about having a protein shake with this.

    Throughout the morning (8:00 - 11:40), I have one Nature Valley protein bars, totaling 190 calories. I also lug around an entire bag of Goldfish (those big, silver ones) that I munch on during class. I'd say about 300 Cal (150/55 crackers) on top of the 190.

    For lunch, I usually eat a Subway "Foot"long. Usually of the Spicy Italian mix, this is probably the cheapest and best option for me because of location and price. My school lunches are far worse and more expensive. Around 1,400 Cal, give or take 200 for sauces or extra bacon.

    Then, I work out at 3:15PM until 4:45/5:30PM, have a 160 calories in a protein shake.

    Dinner, I have no idea. Probably around 500 calories.

    Overall, this might average around 3,000 calories, but I'm still not seeing any weight gain even after using such a system since August of 2014. Any tips on how I can fit more quality food into my mouth but not throw up from eating too much? McDonalds quarter pounder every class?

    didnt read in detail but I do catch the phrase that you said you are having around 3,000 cal.

    either you miscalculate it or not if you are not gaining weight then just eat more that the common principle to gain weight.

    easy cal just eat ice cream, pop tart or something calorie dense. you won't even feel full because you can have ice cream after your dinner.

    This is your problem.

    1. You're inconsistent.
    2. You have little to no idea what you're eating.
    3. You're innaccurate with your tracking.



    My advise would be to DISREGARD TRACKING IN GENERAL.

    Make high calorie food(s) your friends at EACH meal, milk, peanut butter, pizza.

    No idea what you mean by this so I'll interpret it in 2 ways.
    1. What if I get an insane appetite and can not eat enough to satisfy my ever-growing belly? -> This won't happen. If it does, start eating like you used to.
    2. What if I don't have any appetite and still haven't met my caloric requirements for the day? -> Force yourself to eat more.

    Other Advice
    1. Switch from 2% to whole milk.
    2. Eat more meat and invest in whey protein.
    3. Stop convincing yourself that you have a fast metabolism. The difference between a fast and slow metabolism is really about 200 calories. The reason you aren't gaining weight is because you aren't eating enough as you think you are. You weren't raised in an environment where you ate excessively, so your body isn't used to eating at a caloric surplus.

    you do know that certain food has big amount of calorie right?

    if you eat 3,000 calories now and if you follow each of your 3 meals with ice cream that would be something at least 4,500 cal. if you have those coffee, milk or milk shake during day it will even easily be 6,000 cal.


    1 question, you say you consume 3,000 kcal per day and not gaining weight. Have you lose any weight though?

    3,000 calories isn't a tremendous amount especially for somebody with a metabolism like yours and a high activity level. You're gonna need at least 3500-4000 calories and CONSISTENTLY, day in day out to see steady weight gain. The amount of food you listed is by no means a lot e.g. a 300 calorie breakfast is not a bulking breakfast. I'd aim to be consuming 700-1000 calories before even leaving the door for work on a bulk.

    Why are you drinking 2% milk? That is an easy one.


    I wouldn't say disregard tracking. I think some proper tracking will give you an idea of where you are.

    Grab an app called MyFitnessPal on your phone. And at the very least for a week, whenever you have a meal, input it into the app. I think it might surprise you.

    Thank you all for the tips. Will try for a week or so and load up on breakfast before going to school.

    Inconsistency, I think is largely accredited to the workload I get from school. No sleep -> tired in the morning, wake up late = glass of milk for breakfast. Then I starve during the day and eat a huge lunch, get the itis. Sometimes I skip lunch to do a project assignment or miss dinner because of a school event that I couldn't go back home then to school for. Does anyone have tips for this?

    And I usually have whole milk, store was out of it when I went to get groceries. Time to stock up on ice cream, milkshakes and oatmeal.

    Just putting my 2c in... Flat white coffee with 1 sugar and regular milk is 76 calories, give or take.. Don't think that really counts to anything. just my 2c.
