So just graduated school. Got a full scholorship for baseball and was looking to get drafted until I phucked up my arm. Ended up graduating with a business degree in marketing.
Now that I graduated I just can't can't see myself wearing shirt and tie working 9-5 job sitting down all day.
Was thinking about firefighting I'm from the Boston area. My uncle is a firefighter in a small town in MA. I heard it's very difficult to do this.
Just looking for some advice brahs on what I should do.

First step is to visit the websites of a bunch of fire departments in a part of the country you'd like to work and see if/when they are open for hiring. Most departments don't accept applications year round. Start applying to ALL of them that don't require you to have any certifications to apply.
Once you've started doing that, take an EMT course. Typically a 1 semester course at a community college.
Contact individual departments and ask them what they value in a potential employee. Not all departments assign the same value to certain attributes (degrees, certifications, prior trade work, etc.)
If you REALLY want to make yourself a desirable candidate, go to Paramedic school. A Paramedic cert is by far the most valuable certification for 99% of fire departments. The downside to medic school is that you'll likely spend much of your time on an ambulance, although it depends on the department.

2-3 years to become a firefighter? How long is the damn line where you live, dude?
On a serious note, I agree with what others have previously stated. I'd also suggest asking yourself this question:
* Am I willing to give my life, in order to save another?
Because really, that's what it comes down to at the end of the day. The job itself entails the public service of another, and because of the nature of the job, the risk of dire injure is very much real and very much higher than your average, everyday 9 to 5. The cool uniform, the 'pulling chicks' thing, the hero status...ultimately, all that is just static. Just a bonus. You may die in a fire before you get to experience any of those "spoils".
Consider the following first: volunteering at your local Fire & Rescue, completing a First Aid basic (hey, it helps regardless of what you'll end up in), talking to the guys down at the fire station about their lifestyle/shift work (its not for everyone). If you're serious, I'd even go down to the Burns Unit at the local hospital to see the potential consequences of going down this path. Can you live with it?
As others have said, PTSD is very common amongst people in this line of work (as with police officers, soldiers etc.). Consider and think about this in detail because as you said, its a few years of your life you'll be committing. You don't want to waste it. If you do it for all the wrong reasons, you'll know as much down the line. Good luck.
P.S. Marketing ain't so bad, tbh. You can branch out into a lot of different ventures with that. Ever consider PR or advertising?

Do what you think is right. Most firefighters around my town are volunteer, so you won't have to commit ALL your time, as there are shifts. But if you're in NYC, I believe it's paid. I say go for it dude. But do it because you LOVE to help out people and you put them first. You're putting yourself in front of danger, can you do it? I wanted to become a cop, but I just don't see myself doing it. Work hard dude.
