Nah they're still programmed. No drummer plays that consistently. Cymbals are also fake.
A lot of bands these days use real drums. It's not rare, but it's more of a quality-of-musician thing. The problem with the advent of the 'home-producer' shtick is that more people have access to making their own music. This means more quantity but less quality. Going to the studio used to be a massive undertaking of money and time, in order to get fantastic sounding everything. Plus editing tape is ridiculously hard.
Now it's so easy to edit that it's much simpler and quicker to say '**** it' and replace sounds with fake alternatives.
Most of the time in metal I'll replace or layer the kick. The rest of the components are up to how it was tracked in the first place. But I don't get many metal drummers who are consistent enough with their kick to make it usable.
Edit :
I should add that it's not a bad thing that creating music at home is much simpler and more effective then it used to be. There's some truly good musicians out there who had doors opened to them because of it.
But, consider it the same as the gym resolutioner who rolls into the gym to start 5x5 without any idea of form.Last edited by RectalRocket; 01-15-2015 at 12:04 PM.

A quick question for you death metal brahs. Did you start by listening to prog metal etc and lighter stuff? I recently got into prog metal and metal core and have started to love it. When I listen to death metal though I just find it phucking dreadful right now (no hate at all just my opinion). You think over time I'de like it more or is it just not for me?
