Hey guys, iFound a guy near me selling a rogue Ohio bar. He said he got it in September, barely used it due to lack of motivation. Selling it for $200. All i have is a ob-86b that has served me well, and a bwtg safety squat bar.
Do you guys think it's agood buy, or would i be better served getting another ob-86b and saving afew bucks? Whichever bar I get will be my primary bench bar due to the cap bar having a slight bend due to pulls.
Thanks guys

I have the CAP bar, and upgraded to an Ohio bar. I really like the Ohio bar alot, just beware it has the lightest knurling of anything I have used so far though. The Ohio car has 1" (might be more) space on each sleeve for more weight. Between the two Ohio bar all the way. I still use the CAP bar for squats and rack deadlifts mostly.

can someone explain to me how an ohio bar would be better than a cap ob-86b in terms of pressing? i get that you want a stronger bar for higher weight deadlifts, or to sustain impact with safeties in case of rack pulls or drops, but wouldn't those be much less likely with pressing?
if he were wanting to just replace the bar, it seems kind of silly to buy a more expensive bar just for one type of exercise, no? unless it was a specialty bar like a football or swiss which allowed him more variety...
that doesn't mean i think he shouldn't leave his ob-86 as a beater bar/rack pull bar and then use a higher quality bar for all the other ones, just curious.Domicron's Basement Gym and Fun House

I'm not real familiar with the Ohio Bar, but I know that for a "Power" bar, the OB-86B is fairly flexible. THat's good for deadlifts and power cleans, not as good for pressing movements. For presses, a stiffer bar is generally considered to be better. I'm assuming that the Ohio bar is stiffer than the OB-86B.

Key word there being dropping.
By the way, I'm not sure how dropping weights on straps is different than dropping them on spotter arms (as long as it's not the circular style like in a full rack - since they concentrate the weight to a smaller footprint - increasing PSI).USAPL RAW Competitor

the opb is 29 mm. thicker bars (for me at least) feel better to press with, both grip and comfort. plus my tennis elbow flares up less with thicker press bars.
and its funny but I can feel the difference between 28.5 vs 29 mm
yes john. the straps are kinder to the bar, they have a wrapping/hugging effect,
the knurl is unblemished as well and quiet too!
apparently the opb is 205 k tensile steel so I trust it so if it bends itll be on the youtubes haha
its like dropping on a mattress versus dropping on concrete, the momentum is stopped but the impact is different
the safety straps I have at least provide a total of 6 inches of contact surface being 3 inches each sideinstagram @pandobearninja
