For a first long range gun any of you all got any recommendations? As far as calibers I was looking over at Snipers Hide and the 6.5 Creedmore is mentioned a lot over .308 but I'm not real familiar with it.

I'm guessing you read that article? First, are you planning on reloading? Yeah, pretty much every round out there nowadays out performs 308. But if you just want to shoot half minute, or hit steel gongs pushing out to 1k, and you are budget minded, especially on a first lr rifle, then just get 308. Brass has been produced for the last 60 years for it, easy to load, cheaper components and so on.

I'd say I would pretty much have to start reloading once I got into it. I saw that article, I'm actually reading through some forum posts though right now and the further I'm getting through them the more I am kind of leaning towards .308. Seems like the 6.5 is liked better due to less recoil mostly.

Short story, yes. If you build a pistol with the intent of it being a pistol (regardless of how you fire it), youre fine.
If you thumb the eye of the atf and send a letter that says "im going to build an SBR with a sig brace and there isnt anything you can do about it," i got some bad news and theyre going to respond a certain way.
All that said....i enjoy my sig braced piphtol.
Yes i know pic is potato. Maybe ill get it out today and get some better ones.

I'm not sure the ATF knows . . . much less gun owners. Time will tell.
A lot of chatter that the letter which caused the stir was essentially some clown writing them saying "Dear ATF: I'm planning on making an SBR out of a Sig Braced pistol--that's ok, right?" And so they said, well no----if your intent is to skirt the law openly then then it IS an SBR. But then some folks say they are trying to put the toothpaste back in the tube after originally saying using the brace in an unintended manner doesn't change the classification and so shoulder firing is ok.
It's all over the map at the moment.
