I agree it sounds likes a junction box, but I wanted to make sure its not a switched outlet as well. This is why is asked about the tab first.

I was an electrician as well for around 10 years in commercial, industrial and residential until I tore my MCL and went to work in the office instead of going on workmans comp.

Tab is intact. Box is crowded as **** too, so I'm thinking head to a double and keep the single outlet, pigtail the wires and feed in 2 black/2 white to a single outlet.

You don't have to feed 2 sets if you don't want, you can splice them all and pigtail as |ce said. I would suggest to also wrap a piece of tape around the true feed as a marker in case you go back in to the box for any changes.
