    atkins has a 2 week introduction phase where carbs are kept to 20g's a day and then after that , carbs are slowly introduced back into the diet. the atkins diet seems to be geared more for sedetary people. the ketogenic diet is geared more toward athletic people as it allows at least 30g carbs/day plus the 24-48 hour carbup for replenishment of glycogen stores in order to provide strength for workouts/muscle growth. In a nutshell.

    Atkins = ketogenic diet.

    Cyclic Keto diet= atkins induction for 5 days with a 1 or 2 day carb up.

    According to the Atkins book, there is no limit on protein.

    Not good.

    CKD promotes higher fat intake along with moderate protein intake. Atkins promotes muscle loss due to the lack of restraint when it comes to protein.

    When doing Atkins, I probably was eating about 40% fat, 55% protein, and <5% carbs. This led to MASSIVE muscle loss over time.

    CKD takes into account the muscle loss created by usign protein as a primary source of energy. Atkins doesn't.

    IMO, Keto takes Dr. Atkins' idea and perfects it.
    In the making. Light-years away, but loving the trip there.
