Misc Cologne Crew Pt. XIV: Cologne, Candles and Smellin' Good

Went on a major frag sampling/buying trip at LuckyScent/ScentBar, Rodeo Drive, and Beverly Center.

From what I remember:
Most of the Byredo line was unimpressive with the exception of Black Saffron. Thinking about buying a bottle.
Tried Lyric Man and Reflection Man and both were good but not good enough for me to buy a whole bottle. Maybe a decant.
B22 and P31 were both hnnnggg and ended up buying a 50mL B22.
Xerjoff Nio was good but B22 was the far superior citrus scent IMO.
The Dior Private Line was also a little disappointing with Ambre Nuit and Bois D'Argent being the only ones I really liked but even then, I feel Amber Narguille is a much better, more emotional frag than Nuit.
The Chanel Exclusive Line was OK with Sycomore and Eau De Cologne being the standouts for me but there were some big misses in that line including Coromandel and Misia that I really couldn't stand.
Got to try out some of the TF Private Blends that I hadn't tried before. White Suede and Rive D'Ambre are both quite good. Ended up with a 50mL of Neroli Portofino to add to my TL and Costa Azzurra.
The Zegna Exclusive line is pretty good and the price is right. Sicilian Mandarin is a definite winner.

Strong purchases! Miring. I agree with most of the above.

What did you think of ScentBar? How was it?

Their selection is nuts. It's almost a case of too much of a good thing cause there's too much to sample and your nose gets worn out after a while and they all start blurring together. The workers are OK but they definitely have that sort of highbrow attitude or as my wife likes to call it "they drink tea with their pinkies up" attitude. It isn't uncommon in high end shops in that area. Any CC brahs should be OK cause we know what we're looking for and we don't need big long explanations but my wife who knows nothing about fragrances and was asking about things definitely got that impression.

Thanks brah, that was what I was going for. Mostly versatile scents that can work in many different situations, plus a few fun ones for bars/clubs/dates.

Brah, this is just what he brought to his apt in SF. I can only imagine what the full collection pic looks like.

I think I've subconsciously been putting off taking a full collection pic bc I don't want to see how bad the sickness really is lol. Already felt a bit of that when I boxed up the ones I brought to SF, then realized how much was left behind.

Yea he has a great site. I think he had a falling out with people on basenotes a while back. Another blogger i check out is Kafkaesque

SOTD: Riverside drive. This is one frag that i don't generally care for but i get compliments each time i wear it. Got another compliment from a secretary at work today. One of my decants has started turning cloudy. Its appears bit oily but the smell hasnt really changed.



I thinks someone in a prior tread mentioned something similar happening to them.

^^ RSD has always been a compliment getter for me too but it can get pretty sweet/cloying at times

No vetiver. Just smells like bar soap. It's alright but I will not be replacing my decant when it's out.

I will never understand this. I've experienced the same thing in department stores, high end clothing stores, and of course car dealerships. I always laugh about it but can't figure out why it happens in the first place
