O.k, I only took one history course about the civil war so I'm basing my opinion on that. The states broke away because they didn't want North to mess with their laws, mainly slavery laws. And even if the war was not originally about slavery, it became about freeing the slaves.
And that was the flag of the people who were against freeing the slaves, no? How can we now later on say that it represents southern way of life or whatever it represents, when it was created because they didn't want their slavery laws being messed with?

It is a part of our pride and heritage,nowdays it's quite common for younger people
to have the symbol tattooed

The Civil war was not started over slavery directly, it was started to squash the rebellion. However, the rebellion was started because they felt the Federal Government had no right getting involved in State Affairs, specifically regarding racism. The Southern Cross was the banner in which blacks were told the Constitution did not apply to them.

After the Southern loss, the confederate flag all but faded from memory. It wasn't until the Civil rights movement that the Southern Cross resurfaced on the side that supported Jim Crow law.

Point taken. I think it's more offensive to people north of the Mason Dixon line.
We had a truck driver (he was black) that had a rebel flag on the back window.
We never encountered a problem until we started doing interstate commerce.
We received a lot of cocomplaints from companies in the Midwestern states.

Totally false. The Jim Crow law was abolished in the mid 1960's.
There were plenty confederate flags flying way before then, not to mention the fact that there were/are public schools with the rebel mascot and the confederate flag decal.

The sources don't matter. It's a purely opinion-based notion what the flag stands for. I don't see anything racist in the flag while I do see many racists who revere it. They who love it for the wrong reasons are just as ignorant as northerners who hate it for the wrong reasons.
