strong repost
Yes. All the police officer had to say was "You're suspected of theft and therefore I am going to detain you until we cross-check your receipt with the merchandise in question".
The officer had incredible patience in that situation. I think it's amusing that people are quick to label cops d-bags and what not, when in reality, if they aren't authoritative, people with outrageous behavior (whether it be because they are crazy, immature, on drugs, etc.) will just walk all over them.
either way, the dude was clean, don't see why he didn't just show his receipt and go on about his day. What a clown.Right.

No, they don't. If he truly purchased the merchandise, then it is his and they can't touch him. If he actually stole it, then they can detain him, if the stores policies allow it. If he attacks him and it turns out that the merchandise was purchased, it is a hundred thousand dollar lawsuit for walmart. That's why most big chain stores explicitly tell their employees not to even approach people who they think are shoplifting. Even the security guards/actual cops have very little authority.
Don't think about it as something he just bought. Think if it as any other item you might have. A cop can't come over and take it. And, I could be wrong, but not showing a receipt for an item as your walking out of a store is not cause enough for even an actual cop to be able to detain you and take your things/search you.
With all that out of the way, this guy was still being a huge douche. She asked me if I'm smoking again
I said I prolly gotta go in a bit.

I don't believe he can. I could be wrong, but a cop can't come over and take it. Not showing a receipt for an item as your walking out of a store is not cause enough for even an actual cop to be able to detain you and take your things/search you. After he purchased the item, it is not his property and it is just like anything that he had from home. They have to have explicit proof that you stole it to be able to detain and search you.

When your celebrating Christmas with your family. There will be officers who are not, protecting YOU and the general public.
Police serve and protect every day. Their "agenda" is upholding the laws of the country and investigating complaints.
Time to get out of your basement."Trust in the Lord with all your heart, lean not on your own understanding, believe in him in everything you do; in all ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight"

True. Police are becoming more and more aggressive, but I think for the most part, you have nothing to worry about. I would say 1/5 cops are abusing their privilege. But only one in a handful are actually "dangerous", i.e. they will break every rule possible to make sure they injure you or waste your time.

Didn't watch the vid.
But serious question, what is it about a police officer career that warrants more respect than anyone else?
Why not respect everyone's career equally? They get paid for the "service" they do.It is only when a man comes to terms with his own mortality, can he gain the freedom to appreciate life.

Would raw dogged the bearded hobo if I had the chance
In my personal experience Having worked retail Loss Prevention, when I had scum like this give me a hard time to present a receipt for possibly a fraud purchase, missing item, or stolen item, I simply grab the medchandise or hold on to the cart with my merchandise.
Oh it's theirs? Not to me it's not. Where's the proof? This is my store's merchandise he's trying to steal for all I know. It's worked countless of times, even though a few of the customers have simply returned their purchase. But they're the ones who have wasted their time."I can rest when I am dead."

I don't think it is either but iirc this took place in PA which is a very racist state in certain areas. It's easy to condemn the black guy here when you've never had any similar experiences. I've never been asked at Walmart. Best Buy yes but not at Walmart. Usually it's a mentally handicapped person at exit.
